Kenneth Doane Obituary

Kenneth Wayne Doane

With great sadness we announce the loss of Kenneth Wayne Doane to pancreatic cancer on July 6, 2018 at age 66. Ken was an accomplished outdoorsman, talented artist and respected pharmacist.

He enjoyed a small town upbringing as the second of 4 children born to Ron & Carol Doane of Cashmere, Washington. He developed a life-long appreciation of the mountains, becoming an avid skier, backpacker & climber. Ken was passionate about environmental issues & was greatly concerned about climate changes affecting the reduction of mountain glaciers.

A talented artist, he enjoyed creating graphite and colored pencil drawings of family members, pets and Native American articles. He was prolific in creating this beautiful artwork during his retirement years, joyfully gifting his work to appreciative recipients.

Ken followed family members to WSU, earning a degree in Pharmacy in 1975. His brilliant mind and vast pharmaceutical knowledge were incomparable allowing him to become an effective teacher and mentor. His career spanned over 40 years working at Long Beach Memorial Medical Center, Swedish Hospital & Evergreen Pharmaceutical as a clinical consulting pharmacist for long term care patients. He not only enjoyed his career, he excelled at it & prided himself in his dedication to his patients.

WSU also provided the backdrop for developing lifelong friendships. A Coug to the core, he was devoted to his Cougar family & friends. Ken inherited a well-developed sense of humor & quick wit. With practical jokes as a part of his repertoire, he filled friends' lives with laughter.

Ken leaves behind his idyllic life, with wife and best friend Barbara, their dogs Stella and Wally and his close knit and supportive siblings, Rick Doane (Jacque), Nancy Kamitsuka (Mike), and Dave Doane (Wendy). A proud uncle of 11 nieces & nephews, he thoroughly enjoyed watching them mature to begin families of their own.

Our lives were enriched by knowing Ken. His memory will be a blessing to us as we enjoy an early morning hike to an alpine lake, savoring the fragrance of mountain hemlock as we feel the crackle of pine needles beneath our steps. Gazing at the radiant sunset, appreciate as Ken did, the infinite cycle of life & death, admiring the magnificence and wonder of it all and the profound peace that the end creates.

A private celebration of life will be held in his honor.

In memoriam gifts can be made to Cashmere Schools Foundation or Swedish Cancer Institute.

Dear Barbara,
I'm so sorry for your loss. I never had the pleasure of meeting your husband, but what a wonderful human being he was. He obviously loved life, beauty and lived it fully. I'm sorry you didn't have more time, but I can see he didn't waste any of his life on trivial, unimportant things. He seemed to be about people, family, nature, the preservation of the Earth and it's animals and taking in all it's beauty and wonder. Take care. Your friends from San Mateo are thinking of you. Affectionately,

Faith Liikala

I haven't seen Ken in many years, but I STILL remember his great smiling face & the twinkle in his eyes. He was a great friend to his beloved Coug brothers & I lucked out when I married one. He will be greatly missed. Rest In Peace, dear Ken.
