Theophilo Regello Obituary

Theophilo Edwin Regello

11/13/20 - 2/7/15

Resident of San Carlos

Theo Regello was born in San Pablo, CA. He was the youngest of 5 siblings, Mae, Geraldine, Lawrence and Frank, all deceased.

He was in the class of 1942 at UC Berkeley until he left college to join the Air Force. Theo was a part of the 398th Bomb Group stationed in Northhamstead, England during World War II, and flew daylight missions over Germany as a radar officer in the lead plane. When asked if he ever got scared he stated, "If you have a job to do, you just do it." After the war Theo went back to school earning his degree at the San Francisco College of Arts & Crafts where he met and married Dr. Marge Carlson, a pediatrician for the 6th Army. Theo and Marge were blessed with a loving marriage for 23 years until Marge passed from Leukemia. Theo received his teaching credential with the help of his GI Bill.

Theo also served during the Korean War, stationed in Tucson Arizona at Davis Mathernther Air Force Base.

Theo met Barbara Wachter in 1981 at a University of California singles camp, "Lair of the Bear". Barbara was also newly widowed and an immediate bond was shared by both. The love that followed culminated into marriage in 1982. Theo and Barbara were happily married going on 33 years. They traveled throughout Europe, the United States and Canada. Their special spot was Hale Napili in Maui, Hawaii where they enjoyed several months at a time for many years.

Theo loved to laugh and had a keen sense of humor. He was intelligent, passionate, witty, an Oakland school teacher, a water colorist, an airman, a traveler, a sports enthusiast who always enjoyed the Big Game between the Cal Bears and Stanford, and an A's fan, but not until after the All Star Break. He enjoyed solving crossword puzzles, loved dining out, Bombay martinis, coconut cake and chocolate covered peanut clusters. He also loved his dogs, Tootsie and Smokey, and recent visits with Shira. He had a wonderful smile, never complained, and in his later years handled his inabilities with grace.

We are especially thankful to caregivers, Tito Escobia and Ben Colmenar, and several others for their many years of dedicated service and the great care they provided Theo throughout the last years of his life.

Theo is survived by his loving wife, Barbara Wachter-Regello; devoted step-children Ronald (Joan) Wachter, Kenneth Wachter, Richard (Jayne) Wachter; step-grandchildren, Heather Wachter, Isabella Wachter, Erin Anderson, Justin (Melissa) Anderson; step-great grandchild, Cole Anderson; nephews and nieces, and even great nephews and nieces.

A celebration of Theo's life will be held at St. Joseph Cemetery 2540 Church Lane, San Pablo, CA on Tuesday, February 17th at 11:00 am.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the Tuberous Sclerosis Alliance (801 Roeder Rd., Suite 750, Silver Spring, MD 20910) or your favorite charity.
