JAMES HARSTAD Obituary

James Robert Harstad
January 21, 1947 - August 6, 2012
James Robert Harstad of San Francisco died on August 6, 2012 while scuba diving off the coast of Kihei, Maui, Hawaii. Jim was a beloved husband, brother and father who died too soon at the age of 65. He is greatly missed. Jim is survived by his wife of 28 years Diane De Corso, his sisters Pat Harstad and Nori Neuner, his brother-in-law Ken Neuner, his nieces Claire and Kendall Neuner, his son Jon Del Bino, his daughter-in-law Jennifer Davis Del Bino, and his grandchildren Daniel and Victoria Del Bino. Very recently Jim retired as Chief Financial Officer of Progress Foundation in San Francisco, an organization committed to innovative mental health services in the Bay Area. His foresight and caring approach improved the quality of life for thousands of needy clients. For 29 years Jim worked tirelessly on both the financial and operational sides of the agency and was loyally dedicated to the success of Progress, earning him wide respect by professionals in the mental health community. Jim's other great passions included scuba diving (he'd completed more than 450 dives throughout the world), traveling with his wife, and a voracious appetite for good food, good wine and good reads. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the American Heart Association for cardiomyopathy research. A celebration of his life is planned in the near future.

You're part of my heart, Trubble [AKA Jim]

Jim, you are loved more than you ever knew. You made this world a better place, not just for me, as a true friend and trusted confidante, but also for the countless others you touched with your compassion and selflessness. I can't believe you're gone. Who is going to say " Later, Tater" when we sign off after our chess matches? Those frequent chess matches were a high light of my life. I really expected you to be around for another 20 years. Seriously, do you think anyone else on this planet will ever call me a Flumpy Batter Lazy Slug Woman????? I bet not. I love you, Trubble, and miss you so much, you have no idea. Well, maybe you are watching, and you do know. I grieve for you, for me and my loss of our friedship, and for all those who loved you and needed you in their lives. You did indeed make the world a better place, but now it is crying because you're gone. You were truly a diamond in a field of broken glass and you will be in my heart until it stops beating.
