John Cailleau Obituary

CAILLEAU, John - (1938-2005) Services will be held July 7, 2005 at 2:30 at the San Francisco Columbarium for John Kirby Cailleau, who passed away June 20, 2005 at the age of 66. A celebration of his life will follow at the San Francisco LGBT Community Center. Born in Oakland in 1938, John was a lifetime community activist in San Francisco on gay issues and (following a stroke in 1988) on disability access issues. Beginning in 1989, he worked with the Senior and Disabled Advisory Committee to MUNI to ensure greater public access to the transit system, particularly for those with physical limitations or environmental sensitivities. During the 1980's, John founded and ran Event Design and Production and prior to that, he operated a T-shirt printing business serving the then-emerging gay community in the Castro district. His creativity, public relations talents, and sense of purpose helped shape many now-successful business ventures in San Francisco. In death, John joins his parents, Armand and Lenora Cailleau. He is survived by his sister, Denise Norris and nieces, Danielle Arigoni, Nicole Walsh, and Renee Arigoni.
