Stephen A. Calegari passed away on March 16, 2026, at the age of 83.
Born in San Francisco on September 7, 1942, Steve remained deeply connected to the city throughout his life. For many years, he owned and managed a residential building where he became the center of a close-knit community. To his residents, Steve was far more than a landlord. He was a loyal neighbor and friend whose annual Christmas Eve parties brought people together and helped make the building a home.
Steve was a proud graduate of UC Berkeley and a passionate supporter of Cal football and rugby, following both with enduring enthusiasm. At Berkeley, he was a member of Phi Kappa Sigma and maintained close ties with his fraternity brothers over the decades.
Mykonos, Greece, was Steve's second home for more than forty years. There he formed friendships that became an extended family. It was also where he was happiest: sipping vodka cocktails at sunset on his favorite beach, Agios Sostis; relaxing at Kiki and Vassili's taverna; spending early mornings at the fish market with Adonis; and watching his friend Karolina capture the spirit of the island in her renowned paintings. Perhaps closest of all were Maria and Michalis, who cared for his home at The Residence on Rohari and welcomed him back season after season.
He is survived by his son Mark Calegari, daughter-in-law Rhonda Parker, and his beloved grandchildren Connor and Christian. He is also survived by his brother Michael (Mike) Calegari and his nephews Nick and Sean.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Lisa Calegari (2021), and by his parents, Nathan and Evelyn Calegari.
