Julie Conroy Obituary

Julie Marie Conroy
January 21,1958 -January 20, 2021
Julie Marie Conroy, age 62, passed away January 20, 2021, in San Diego, California, from end-stage liver disease after a long struggle with addiction. Julie was born January 21, 1958, in San Francisco and was the first child of Kevin and Virginia (Wade). She is survived by her sons, Matthew O'Leary (Amanda) and Benjamin O'Leary (Colleen); her brother and sisters, Brian, Amy, Lucy (Brian McBride), Mary, and Ellen Lopez (Aaron); her three nephews; and her five grandchildren.
Raised in the Crocker-Amazon neighborhood of San Francisco, Julie attended School of the Epiphany (1972), Presentation High School (1976), and University of San Francisco (1982), where she received a degree in nursing, following in the profession of her mother. Throughout her life, Julie held a variety of jobs in the medical field and later became a tour guide director. Julie continued to be a practicing Catholic within her local parish.
Julie had many passions in life, including traveling, reading, photography, and movies. She was a gourmet cook, and her friends and family have many fond memories of evenings around her dinner table, sharing homemade pasta or a holiday feast. Famous for multitasking, Julie could be found knitting during Giants games, taking a camera to every event, and always carrying a tote bag full of newspapers (and diet soda!). An avid volunteer for organizations that were important to her, such as the San Francisco Gay Men's Chorus, she spent her birthday every year volunteering at the Sundance Film Festival in her birthday tiara. San Francisco's Camp Mather held a special place in her heart, from childhood trips with all the Conroys to family vacations of her own as an adult. She also loved all things Italian, and she dreamed of learning Italian and living in Italy one day.
Because of COVID-19 restrictions, a memorial service for Julie will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Julie's name can be made to the San Francisco Gay Men's Chorus, or Friends of Camp Mather.

I´m at SFO and just saw a lady that coulda been my old pal Julie. So I googled. So sad to hear that she passed in 2021. We were neighbors and divorcees together in the Richmond District decades ago. I saw her last at an Opera in the Park. Rest well Julie. We had some great laughs.

Hi Julie, I am thinking of you often, remembering all the angst of our teen years, the laughter, dancing, the many many beautiful memories, and even though we didn't stay in contact every day, when we did get together it was always a treasured time. Cheers to you in the after life, seeing everyone you left before you. Miss you my friend!!! XOXOXOXO

How sad news. We had a fantastic time together 20 years ago, when I stayed at your place for 6 months. Julie was very welcoming en warm. I was really hoping to introduce my new family to her one day. Leaving in Europe, I have just got the bad news. I am sad. I wish Ben and Matt, her brothers ans sisters, her friends, a lot of courage.

I am so sorry to hear of Julie's passing. I met her as a teenager when we both taught swimming at the local pool. Even though our paths didn't cross again, I've thought of her over the years. She had a smile that could light up a room and make you feel as though you had been friends forever. My condolences to her family

I met Julie years back and admired her then for her warmth and spontaneity. She helped me with my computer issues when I was a neophyte to all things technology. I had lost contact with her since. May she Rest In Peace surrounded by Love. Eartha Newsong

Julie and I shared a common darkness in addiction. She reached out to me on occasions when I was in dark states of depression. We spoke a few times about our shared struggles. She was such a sweet and caring person and she will be missed dearly. Sending much love to the family.

A run in with a stranger had me driving Julie across Birmingham to retrieve her forgotten keys.

A completely random and chance meeting.

I remember how I laughed in that blip of a trip in a car with a stranger.

It was that deep soul laugh that I’d experienced much more often in childhood.

Anyway, somehow we ended up facebook friends.

We’ve gone back and forth sporadically with comments and messages through the years.

She was my daughter’s facebook fan from the beginning.

Six days ago, I was sad to see she passed away.

I’ve learned that she may not have been able to see for herself what a completely incredible human being she was. How sad that is.

She was a brilliant and beautiful spirit who represented The Golden Gate City well. She brought light to our Magic City.

I’ll think of Julie every time I think of San Francisco.

Godspeed sweet Julie.

I met Julie at a church event and her energetic, courageous personality made me feel connected and at ease in the space over a weekend. I would later see glimpses of her dancing at music in the park or catch up with what she was doing on social media. She was a positive force on this earth and I will miss her.

I’ve known Julie since I was about 15. I would visit my cousin Patty in the summer time, and meet up with Julie that way. We wrote letters to each other through out the year. Many wonderful memories and a few sad ones as well. We gathered with the girls for dinner, sometimes a weekend away. I will miss my dear friend! RIP Julie ❤

Ladies and gentlemen, Dear Family members.

My name is Peter, i am a flight attendant from Switzerland

I had the pleasure to meet Julie a couple of years ago on a layover in SFO on a Trip with a cable car.
We had just a small time frame to talk together, but we exchanged our cellphone numbers & stayed in contact all over the years.

Unfortunately Covid made it not possible any more to meet Julie again

I am shocked about what happened & I wanna say, that it was really really too early to leave this beautiful planet.

All my condolences and good wishes for her and all the family members.

I met Julie when we were both nurses at San Ramon Regional Medical Center. She was a fun, and funny co-worker. She cared so much for her patients and was a strong and tireless advocate for them. Julie was truly a person who never met a stranger. My condolences to her family and I hope you are comforted by the many wonderful and positive memories she made with you.
