Robert Hartzell Obituary

Robert Edward Hartzell A trusted aide to the late San Francisco Mayor George Moscone and who worked for the SF Giants following his career in politics, passed away peacefully on February 25, 2012, at the age of 63 following a nine month battle with cancer. A California native, Bob graduated from U.C. Berkeley before working in his uncle Pete McCloskey's campaign for president in 1972. That started a political career that included work for William Matson Roth's campaign for governor of California in 1974; George Moscone's campaign for mayor in 1975; and stints on both Mayor Moscone's staff as well as LA Mayor Tom Bradley. In 1986 Bob went to work for the Giants to help launch "GiantsVision," which is now Comcast SportsNet Bay Area. Bob spent the past six years living in Maine where he worked as a writer and editor. He was married twice, to Carol Monda and Mona Burns. Bob is survived by his daughter Jessica, mother Virginia, and siblings Adrienne, John, and David. A tribute to his life will be held at 1pm on Saturday March 3, 2012, at 14 Baywood Terrace, San Rafael. Please call Corey Busch (415) 458-8667 for details. In lieu of flowers, please send a contribution in Bob's name to: Friends in Action, P.O. Box 1446, Ellsworth, Maine 04605.

My deepest and sincere wishes to Bob's family. I worked with Bob on George Moscone's campaign and hosted a party for George. Bob was so much fun to work with. He had a that spark of fun that is missing in much of today's politics. To his family always be proud . Bob was a gift. My prayers are with you.
