George Dodridge Rowan Jr. a longtime resident of Oakland, transitioned peacefully on June 10th, 2019, at the Veterans Hospital in Martinez after a heroic battle with lung cancer. Born and raised in West Hollywood, George's mother Raquel Miller, a silent movie actress and piano teacher, taught him piano from the age of 4 which sparked his desire to be an entertainer. To plant trees in memory, please visit the Sympathy Store.

I remember when I lived at the bordello, I often visited George when I came back from my daily days of riff raff and go up to his room where he had wigs and costumes to try on. I remember telling him how I didn´t have rent that month because I gambled it and he continued by getting on his piano and playing "my last two dollars".After he died I was at the casino and that song"my last two dollars" came on.- Rest in peace, George

I'm glad George didn't have to live through the pandemic and everything that's happening now. He was such a ray of sunshine. I'm sending sunny thoughts to all his friends today.

I have video of GR performing on the piano and otherwise extemporizing on various matters on my Vimeo channel. Search " Jack London George" to find them.

I knew George for the last 5 years or so, of his life. Amazing stories he had, and I'll bet mostly true. He gave my talented artist friend, Derek, a tennis lesson in exchange for a drawing to be used in his upcoming tennis book. I wonder if it ever got published..? I also got to ride with him in his old Cadillac limo, which George said had previously belonged Liberace..

What a fun and loving person he was! One of my first friends in San Francisco.
I remember his kindness and great laugh, and endless energy.
