Eugene Gesch Obituary

Gesch, Eugene K. "Gene"

Eugene K. "Gene" Gesch, 90, of Sheboygan, died Monday, May 26, 2014 at Sheboygan Senior Community.

Gene was born August 27, 1923 on his parent's farm near Haven in the Town of Mosel. He was the second son of Arno and Laura (Pieper) Gesch. He attended Haven State Grade School. He also attended Sheboygan Central High School. Gene served his country during World War II in the United States Marine Corps and was stationed in the South Pacific.

On March 1, 1944 Gene and Helen Margaret Gerk were united in marriage. They recently celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary.

After his honorable discharge from the Marine Corps, Gene operated a service station in Haven. From 1950 to 1965 he and his brother, Arnie, operated the Shell Service Station on 8th and Michigan in Sheboygan. For the next 23 years, Gene was employed at Snap-On Tools Corporation. His work transferred him to Saginaw, MI, Birmingham, AL and Nashville, TN. Gene retired in 1987 and remained in Tennessee until 2008 when he and Helen moved back to Sheboygan.

In his retirement, Gene enjoyed doing volunteer work and spent many hours on golf courses in Florida, Tennessee and Wisconsin. Gene and Helen would spend time in Florida during the winter and travel to Sheboygan in the summer. Gene enjoyed life; especially with Helen, his friend, companion and loving wife.

In addition to his wife, Helen, he is survived by his son, William Gesch of Lilburn, GA; and two daughters, Marjorie (Jack) Sisk of Modesto, CA and Julia (Brad) Anderson of Murfreesboro, TN; four grandchildren, Brighan (Ryan) Marsh of Athens, GA, Benjamin (Jessica) Gesch of Atlanta, GA, and Krista and Blake Anderson of Murfreesboro, TN; and by his brother, Arnie Gesch of Sheboygan.

A memorial service will be held Friday, May 30, 2014 at 2:00 pm at St. Mark Lutheran Church. Rev. Brett Matz, Pastor, will officiate.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in Gene's name for St. Mark Lutheran Church or a charity of your choice.

Aunt Helen, Margie, Bill, and Julia,
I am so sorry about Uncle Eugene's passing. He and Aunt Helen would often visit Rupp's Downtown with Uncle Donnie and Aunt Gloria. We enjoyed chatting with them there after all these years.
We are so sorry for your loss.

Gene enjoyed life and all that knew him and Helen enjoyed them. Gene always had a smile and a little joke to tell when we got together at church, the golf course or through email. We here in Nashville and OSLC will miss him very much.
