James Frey Obituary

James Aubrey Frey

Shreveport, LA - James Aubrey "Chick" Frey, a native son of Shreveport, passed away peacefully Monday, October 15, 2018 at the Northwest Louisiana Veteran's Home after a sudden illness.

He is preceded in death by his second wife of forty-four years Patricia; first wife of fifteen years Betty; father, William; mother, Vera Virginia; sisters, Willie Bee and Vera Lee; and brothers Bobby and Boyd Wilson. He is survived by his children, Debra and spouse Charles, Sue and spouse Kent, and James and spouse Rodgita. He is also survived by grandchildren, Candice, Shelly, Molly, Pamela, Melissa, James, Johnathan, Kimberly, Michael, and Leondra; great-grandchildren, Kendyl, Camryn, Bridgett, Trey, Jessica, Grace, Amy, Josh, and Shawn; great-great grandchild, Clayton; his sister, Billie; and a host of friends.

Born in 1929, he attended Byrd High School but was forced to quit in order to help support his family. At the age of sixteen, he lied to his recruiter and enlisted in the United States Marines. He served at Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point, NC where he flew F-4 Corsairs to ensure they were operational before being sent back to the fleet. When his 2-year enlistment was up, he celebrated with his friends with a night out on the town. When he woke up the next morning, he discovered that he had enlisted in the United States Navy as a Machinist's Mate. He served in San Diego, CA on the USS Sperry for 2 years. In his younger days, James was a well-known billiards player and bowler, as well as an avid fisherman. He was also the luckiest poker player you ever met, a source of considerable anger and admiration from his friends.

Pallbearers will be James Frey, Johnathan Frey, Bubba Morris, Trey Morris, Brian Miller, and Shawn Payne.

Visitation will be 5 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, October 18, 2018 at Rose-Neath Southside. Funeral services will be held at Rose-Neath Southside at 2 p.m. on Friday, October 19, 2018 with burial following at Centuries Memorial Park.

The family wishes to express special gratitude to the caring staff at the Northwest Louisiana Veteran's Home.

The Final Salute

Brothers in Arms, Military men and women down through the centuries, have traditionally exchanged Hand Salutes as a sign of recognition and as a way to render courtesy and respect one to another.

This Hand Salute is the last that we shall render to James Aubrey (Chick) Frey our Brother-in-Arms. To his family it symbolizes the love and respect that we have for Chick. To Chick it is rendered as a symbol of honor and gratitude to thank him for the devoted and selfless service he rendered to his country post WW-II while serving in the U.S. Marine Corps and in the U.S. Navy. Chick, we commend you for your honorable service. You are a true patriot, who served with honor and distinction. You upheld the finest qualities of an American patriot warrior: courage, commitment, generosity, sacrifice, love and devotion to family and country. You were a true friend. We bid you a sad farewell. You will be dearly missed from among our ranks. Be at Ease. Rest in Peace.

On behalf of the 961 military veteran Legionnaires of Lowe-McFarlane Post 14 of the American Legion and the 177 veterans of VFW Post 2238 in Shreveport, Louisiana, we extend our sympathies and our condolences to Chick's family and loved ones.
