Samuel Thornton Obituary
Visitation will be held from 5:00 pm until 8:00 pm on Sunday, January 2, 2011 at Rockett Funeral Home.
Sam was born on February 2, 1953 and passed away on December 31, 2010. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, son and brother. He taught us work ethic, dependability and humility. His wish was to gain enough strength to maintain the grounds of his new church building, saying it was a good and humble thing to do. Sam had a wonderful sense of humor with a dry wit and a way of speaking his mind. He was devoted to his family, loved the Lord, and cherished his church. He was preceded in death by his father, A.L. "Bay" Thornton.
Left to cherish his memories are his wife, Maria Thornton of Ringgold, LA; his daughter, Angie Thornton Plunkett of Haughton, LA; his son, Matt Thornton and his wife Chamie of West Monroe, LA; his mother, Corryce Thornton of Ringgold, LA; his sisters, Faye Yates and Linda Thornton, both of Shreveport, LA; his brother, Bobby Thornton of St. Augustine, FL; grandchildren, Callan and Cooper Thornton; along with a host of other relatives and friends.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to The Victory Life Worship Center building and maintenance fund.
A special thanks is extended to Castor High School Faculty, staff, and students for their love and support.
