John LeGrand Obituary

John Murry LeGrand, Jr.

Bossier City - John passed away on Saturday, March 13th. A visitation will be held from 5-7:00 pm on Thursday, March 18th at Osborn Funeral Home with a Vigil service beginning at 7:00 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 am on Friday, March 19th at St. John Berchman's Cathedral in Shreveport; graveside interment to follow at St. Mary's Cemetery in Rambin, La. Celebrating the Mass will be Fr. Karl Daigle and Msgr. Earl Provenza, assisted by Fr. Fidel Mondragon and Fr. Charles Glorioso.

Mr. LeGrand was a native and resident of Bossier City for 74 years. He was a member of Christ the King Catholic Church his entire life, and also attended Christ the King School as a child. John attended Bossier High School, Centenary College in Shreveport, Vincennes University in Chicago, and also LSU Banking School of the South. John served the community as a banker in Bossier for 51 years and 40 years in the Louisiana Army National Guard; additionally, he previously served as President of the Bossier Chamber of Commerce, President of the American Cancer Society, a member of Bossier Parish School Board (Representative, District 6), and served on the Louisiana Attorney Disciplinary Board.

Mr. LeGrand was preceded in death by his parents, J. Murry LeGrand Sr. and Lillie Hesser LeGrand, his younger brothers Daniel and William LeGrand, and his beloved late wife of 38 years, Christine Tuminello LeGrand. He is survived by his sister and friend, Phyllis LeGrand Breitschopf (David Breitschopf); his loving daughters, Lisa LeGrand-Aguirre (Eric Fletcher) and Tiffany LeGrand Joyner (Christopher Sean Joyner); and his precious grandchildren Landon Martin and Isabella Christine Joyner.

A loving husband, father, son, brother and grandfather, John devotedly served his family. He was a courageous partner to Christine through her long and painful journey with ovarian cancer; he was a caregiver to his parents until their deaths, he was a friend to his sister as long as he was able; he was a selfless father and a guide to his children and grandchildren until his dying moments. John provided his family with a fine example of integrity, a positive attitude, graciousness, always being a gentleman, and his constant love for his family.

John's personal statement:

"I wish to thank all my banking friends for allowing me to have such a wonderful hobby, as I never felt it was a job; also, my wonderful Army National Guard family. I have had a near-perfect life, married to my best friend Christine, blessed with Lisa and Tiffany as well as Sean and Eric. My world was completed when God blessed me with my precious grandchildren, Landon Martin and Isabella Christine Joyner. I can assure my family and friends that I am okay. Know that I am happy and at peace with my beloved Christine."

I still think of John often. He was my banker for many years and was a `make it happen´ kind of man. Any time I asked his advice on a purchase, he would tell me if that´s what I wanted, we would make it happen ... and he did. He was a good friend always.

I was very shocked to see this Obituary!! I was not aware that John had passed. My Parents knew John from Christ the King, and had been customers of Citizens Bank for many years. After my Dad passed away in 2001, we had my Mom move in with us, and we live in NC. John gave Mom his #, and he always enjoyed talking with her, and she really enjoyed their conversations !! She was really saddened when I told her of his passing. We are keeping his Family in our Thoughts and Prayers !!

Best boss I ever had. We had the best work family at the Westgate Branch of National Bank of Bossier. We lost our branch mother, Mary Lou Painter, a few years ago and now our boss man. We lost a great man! My best to Lisa and Tiffany. Do you still have the doll house we made at the bank for your Christmas? Love you guys.

I am so saddened to hear of your loss. I've known Mr. LeGrand for many years sharing mutual work at Christ The King and with the Chamber of Commerce. He was always a great mentor who was patient and kind. He was a wonderful comfort to my father when my mother passed away after suffering with cancer. My father and I went to lunch with your Dad after making arrangements for changes to finances after my mother's passing and I will always treasure and remember his encouragement to my father that time would heal his hurt and to find peace in faith and family. Your father lived what he spoke of to others and was a true gift to those who knew him. I'm only happy that he is with your mother and at peace in God's loving presence.

I am so sad about this news. He was a wonderful man. Loved his family more than life itself. Loved his church and his banking family.
He will be missed by many. A true loss to our community. Rest in precious friend. We will meet again.

John was my banker for many years, but, more than that, he was my friend ... a wonderful, Christian friend. He always had a smile when I saw him. I know he was a devoted husband to Christine, and a loving father and grandfather. He loved his family and my heart goes out to them for their loss. Praise God that he is no longer in pain, but in Glory. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him. May our Lord comfort you and your family and give you His peace.

I have known Johnny since I was a little girl as his parents lived directly behind my parents. When I was little he called me”Titta” and even as I grew he still called me that. He is now walking with our Lord and his family in heaven. Give your mom (my babysitter) a kiss from me and say hello to my parents.

Johnny was the perfect friend and classmate. He supported us in our times of need and gave us all a view of what a really good Christian is. I will miss his counsel and wisdom as well as his sense of fun and adventure. Rest in peace, fellow BearKat.

Johnny LeGrand was the name of a true Southern Gentleman. This man was the epitome of human kindness. He left his footprint on so many hearts and made the world a better place. I feel like one of the lucky ones that I could call my friend of many years starting as a highschool classmate. Rest In Peace, Johnny. You will never be forgotten.

I'm so sorry to hear about John's passing. John was probably the most helpful person to me throughout the years. Anytime I wanted a new car he would just say "Go get it". John was also one of my most loyal customers at my barbeshop. He first started coming to me when I worked at Barksdale and then followed me when I put in my own shop in Bossier City. Nicest guy you would ever want to meet. He will be missed

My condolences to John's family and friends. John was the first person of my age who I met when my dad was transferred to Barksdale in 1961. He was tooling around Bossier City in a WWII surplus jeep painted Red & White, driving barefoot. Damnedest thing I ever saw. John was a great friend and an even greater Bossier Bearkat, helping to organize many of our class reunions and opening up his home to his classmates for gatherings. I will always remember him with great fondness. Rest in peace, my friend.
