Ellen Grigsby

RIVERTON - Mary Ellen Grigsby, 72, of Riverton, died at 5:10 p.m. on Monday, August 29, 2011 at St. John's Hospital. She was born December 16, 1938 in Springfield to Anton W. and Irene P. Graham Valenti. She married Ralph L. Grigsby on December 17, 1955 at Sts. Peter and Paul's Church and he survives.

Mary is also survived by one daughter, Vickie (Gale) Lee of Riverton; two sons, Tony (Anne) Grigsby of Phelan, CA and Tim (Sandra) Grigsby of Riverton, IL; one sister; Pat (Harry) Cowan of Athens, IL; two brothers, Mick (Nanette) Valenti of Springfield and Terry Valenti of Divernon; eight grandchildren, Whitney (Jake), Mary Scarlett, Dalton, Dillan, Jeremy, Jake, Mikaylee and William; one great-granddaughter, Addelyn and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

She is preceded in death by her parents and one sister, Antoniette Parks.

Mary was a member of St. James Church in Riverton. She spent many hours praying for her family and friends and even strangers, and was very devoted to the Lord. She enjoyed spending time with and cooking for her family. She enjoyed playing cards. She was a Homemaker and formerly worked at the Marine Corp. Base in CA and at St. Frances Convent.

Visitation: 4-7 p.m., Thursday, September 1, 2011 at Staab Funeral Home with a prayer service at 4 p.m.

Lie-In-State: 8:30-9:00 a.m. Friday, September 2, 2011 at St. James Church in Riverton.

Funeral Mass: 9 a.m., Friday, September 2, 2011 at St. James Church in Riverton with Reverend Joe Ring officiating. Burial will be in Camp Butler Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to St. Jude's Hospital for Children.
