Charles Sours Obituary

Charles Albert Sours Sr.

SPRINGFIELD, IL - Master Sergeant Charles Albert Sours Sr., born Dec. 22, 1935, breathed his last breath at 6:10 p.m., March 4, 2014, in the loving arms of his wife, Nellie Irene Sours. His next breath was in the loving arms of Jesus.

Dad, Goodbye. See you in glory some sweet day!

We're honored to have our father's memories. The times here we had with him, our Prince, our Protector.

He served in the U.S. Army from 1953-1980, including oversea tours in Germany and Vietnam. In 1969, he was one of the funeral honor guards for General of the Army, President Dwight David "Ike" Eisenhower.

He worked for 10 years as a correctional officer at the Work Camp in Springfield, Ill., and 10 years as a security guard for the Illinois EPA.

He loved golf and western tv shows, won first place for the Senior Around the Town Golf Tournament, and was awarded several plaques, ribbons, medals and unit citations.

He was preceded in death by:

His fifth great-grandfather, Henry Sours! He had the same name as his father, brother and grandfather. They all share the name, Henry. How cool is that; a great connection; compatriot of his fourth great-grandparents, our American Revolutionary Patriots, Anna Rudolph Sours, and Frederick Sours. How cool. Buried on Stonyman Mountain Va.; third great-grandparents, Baltharsar Sours and Anna Crigler Sours, buried in Indianapolis, Ind.; second great-grandparents, Aaron Sours and Barbara Sours; great-grandparents, the Rev. William Riley Sours and Sarah Lundy Sours, buried in Chandlerville Ill.; grandparents, Elizabeth Moffitt Parrish and Harrison Sylvester Parrish, in Springfield, Ill., and Henry Sours, buried in Virginia, Ill., and Frances Norris Sours Hess in West Virginia; mother and father, Monetta Onevia Parrish and Carl Henry Sours in Springfield, Ill.; brother, Carl Henry Sours Jr.; sister, Frances Mae Sours Barrow; and niece, Tina Marie Sergent.

Survived by his wife, Nellie Irene Sours; son, Chuck Sours (wife, Brenda) of Chatham, Ill.; daughter, Penny Blevins of San Antonio, Texas; son, Tracy Sours (wife, Holly) of Shelbyville, Ky.; stepson, Tony Baker of Springfield, Ill.; grandchildren: Charlie Sours III (wife, Marie) of Austin, Texas, Kristina Church of San Antonio, Texas, Jesse Sours (wife, Amber) of Barstow, Calif., and Ashley Sours of Las Vegas, Nev.; great-grandchildren: Vanity, Aislee, Nevaeh, Jaxton and Tyler; nieces and nephews: Sandy Craig, Marcie Buraski, Debbie Barrow, Kathi Krell, Michael Sergent, Patty Sparling, Carol Sanchez, Peggy Johnson, Cathy Sergent, Adam Sergent, Matthew Sergent, Danielle Sergent, and Troy Sergent; several great- and great-great-nieces, -nephews, cousins and friends.

We will be honoring my father in a memorial service later this summer.

Love you Dad Forever. Chuck Sours

He was a very kind man. Will remember him most for the love he had for golf. Every time we went there he was watching it. And the love he had for Irene. Will be missed
