Edward Harvey Obituary

Edward Lindsey Harvey 1960 - 2021
Springfield , IL—Edward Harvey, age 60, passed away on February 23, 2021.
Edward was born November 25, 1960 in Springfield, IL to Eugene E. Harvey and Agnes Laverne Harvey. He married Jana Harvey on June 24, 1988 in Springfield, IL.
Ed graduated from Griffin High School in 1978. He attended SIU Carbondale and later graduated from UIS with a degree in Computer Science.
He worked for the State of Illinois for many years and retired as a Senior Public Service Administrator in 2016.
Ed had too many talents to list, but he was an artist, a carpenter, and a gardener. He shared his many talents with his family and friends. He loved nature from a very young age. Ed never tired of walks in the woods with his dog, Clarence. His tomato plants were legendary. His greatest talent was being a Dad and his kids were the joy of his life. Ed's artistic talent is displayed all over our home, from paintings to beautiful woodworking. If his children were interested in something, he became an expert. He built an amazing guitar for his son and remodeled an old home for his daughter. There are countless ways that he cared for his wife and children. His loss is immeasurable, but we promise to go to the basement when there is a storm.
Ed was preceded in death by his father.
He is survived by his wife, Jana Harvey; daughter, Rachael Lindsey Harvey; son, Daniel Butler Harvey; his mother, Agnes Laverne Harvey; brothers, David Harvey (Janice) and Timothy Harvey (Polly); sisters, Kathy Lutz (Warren), Lisa Harvey, and Karen Shea (Steve); brother-in-law, Lyle Butler (Karen); and several nieces and nephews.
Cremation will be provided by Butler Cremation Tribute Center and a Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
Memorial contributions may be sent to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105-9959.
The family is being served by Butler Funeral Home—Springfield, 900 S. Sixth St., Springfield.

Jana and family,
You have my deepest condolences on the passing of Ed. I worked with him at DPH and would later run into him at various agency meetings on HIPPA projects. He was a great co-worker and friend. I'm sorry to hear of his passing.

My sincerest condolences on the loss of Ed. He was such a great guy and I always enjoyed working with him at Public Health. He was taken way too early.
May God bless and comfort you and your family during this difficult time.
