KENNETH HUMES Obituary

Kenneth Layton Humes, age 58, passed away April 27, 2013 at his home in Alger, Washington, after a brief struggle with pancreatic cancer. Ken was born in San Diego. He was raised and went to school in Mount Vernon.

Ken was an accomplished welder, heavy equipment mechanic and operator. He was a long time union member of The Operating Engineers Local #302. Ken retired 6 years ago following a work related injury.

Ken loved cars, particularly fast cars and enjoyed working on their engines. He liked to fish so he always looked forward to fishing season and smoked many of the fish he caught. He enjoyed spending time with his grandson and looked forward to sharing his hobbies with him as he got older.

Ken spent much of his time puttering around the house and yard working on many special projects. He took special pride in maintaining his yard and landscaping, planting trees, shrubs and started a rose garden. He had many construction projects around the home including carpentry, electrical and cement work. He built barns and sheds as needed for their animals and for their possessions.

Kenneth was preceded in death by his mother Doreen Gloria Nygard and his father Kenton K. Humes.

He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Joella K. Humes at the family home in Alger; son Curtis Edward Humes of Bellingham, daughter Taunya Gertie Robinson; son-in-law Ronnie Robinson; and grandson Roman Layton Robinson of Oak Harbor; sister Julie Lynne Hogberg of Tacoma.

A private service is to be held for his immediate family and close friends.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society www.cancer.org/donate or to a charity of your choice.

Hi Joella, As you know we have been friends & neighbors for quite a long time. Whant you to know that you are not alone, we are here. Ken was the kind of person that would help you if you needed it. I can't count all the time's that he helped me get hay & feed in for my horse's or give me a ride to the ranch when the snow was really bad. In the summer KC & I would stop in and say hi,talk for a few minutes, often he would talk about Roman, how big he was getting and smart he was, he was so proud of him. Ken we will miss you, but you will always be with us. (keep on fishing). Dave, Joye & Brian Ferguson.
