SONJA DORAN Obituary

March 13, 1938 - April 1, 2017

Sonja passed away in her sleep on April 1 after battling cancer for several years.

Sonja is survived by her husband of 58 years, Stephen G. Doran, brother Herbert Lynwood Oden Jr., sister Molly Stewart, daughter Denise Price, son Stephen R. Doran and wife Jennifer, grandchildren Rebecca Kamena and Jason Kalles, and great-grandchildren Clive, Audrey, Victoria, and Calvin.

Sonja was the oldest child of Herbert Lynwood Oden and Achsah Oden and was born on Hatteras Island, North Carolina.

She was a 60 year member of the Order of Eastern Star and a member of the Methodist church.

She married Steve on December 22, 1958 and became a Navy wife. She traveled to many places as a Navy wife, but her heart always remained at Hatteras.

She loved the warmth, sunshine, the people and the white sandy beaches of her Hatteras Island and she never lost her southern hospitality.

According to her wishes, there will be no service. A marker of her remembrance will be placed in the family cemetery in Hatteras.

Sonja had the sweetest smile and made you feel right at home. Always so positive and never complained. Her husband took the best care of her. She appreciated every thing he did. Such a loving couple. We will miss you Sonja rest in peace at the Hatteras island. Terry and Barbara

I have had the pleasure of doing Sonja's hair for about 4 yrs. she absolutely was the most positive loving and kind person that always made my day when she would come to visit me. She and Steve would always share jellies and jam with me. I'm a better person from knowing her. She will be missed. Rest In Peace Sonja!
