THOMAS ZALEWSKI Obituary

Thomas George Zalewski, of Anacortes, WA was born March 20, 1949 to Audree (Walton) and Francis Zalewski in Chicago, Illinois. Thomas was the 3rd of three children. He passed away in Madras, August 28, 2017.
In 1951 the Zalewski family moved to Washington state where Thomas attended school in Mountlake Terrace, WA. In his sophomore year, the family moved to San Jose, CA. He later received a GED and received a BFA from California College of Arts with distinction in Painting.
Drafted into the US Army in 1969 he served in Viet Nam as a medic attached to the 199th Light Infantry Brigade, 3rd of the 7th D Company, and the 11th Armored Cavalry Division. He came home November of 1971.
His jobs centered around art, becoming an illustrator for Lawrence Livermore Labs in California for several years. Supermost, his interests lay in creating his own artwork, known for his large paintings of irises and animals, especially birds. He worked in varied mediums creating dinosaur puppets, shakuhachi flutes, detailed dioramas, and hand crafted bound books, excelling also in the art of photography.
Thomas exhibited art in such galleries as The Depot and Scott Milo Gallery in Anacortes, The Barn in Mount Vernon and Art Adventure Gallery in Madras. He was most proud of being asked to include a piece in the annual fundraiser for the Wing Luke Museum of Asian Pacific American Experience in Seattle. As Gallery Director for The Depot Gallery, in Anacortes, he helped form a college of arts to provide art classes.
He was married and divorced twice, first to Debbie Jackson, secondly to Colleen Yonetoni. Thomas is survived by son, John Patrick Zalewski, sister, Barbara (Michael) Williams, father, Francis Zalewski, nephews, Aaron (Monica Bartlett) Schneider, and Evan (Christina) Williams and five great-nephews and nieces, Grace and Wesley Scnheider and Kaden, Kayli and Kaitlynn Williams and nearly nephew Ben (Angela) Keeton and children, Ian, Alyssa and Neil and lastly by many cousins.
Thomas was preceded in death by his mother, Audree Zalewski, his sister, Joanne and her husband Gerald Lake.
Graveside service will be held at the Grandview Cemetary, Sept., 23 at 11:00 a.m.
