Alexander Joseph Zalewski, 96, passed away peacefully at home on February 15, 2026.
He was born on April 1, 1929, in Baldwinville, the son of Joseph Zalewski and Mary (Matusewicz) Zalewski, and was a lifelong residence of Baldwinville.
Alex graduated from Templeton High School in 1947 and then went to trade school in Worcester, MA. He was a U.S. Army Veteran, serving during the Korean War, stationed in Japan.
Alex worked as construction plumber and fitter under the Worcester Local Union #4. He was a member of the Baldwinville American Legion Warfield Post #373, Otter River Knights of Columbus, and St. Vincent de Paul Parish in Baldwinville. In his younger years, Alex served his town as the Templeton Water Supertendent and a member of the Finance Committee.
Alex had the gift to gab, and he enjoyed telling stories about his work and history of the town. His motto to living was “Be a good person, make good decisions, and do not have anger or animosity toward others.”
Alex was predeceased by his loving wife of 68 years, Carolyn Zalewski, his son Steven, and daughters Catherine and Carol Zalewski. He was also predeceased by his sister Edith Sbrega and brother Stanley Zalewski.
He leaves behind his son Peter Zalewski of Gardner, daughter Elizabeth Zalewski of Baldwinville, daughter Susan Fritz, son-in-law Martin Fritz, and grandson Julian Fritz of Orlando, FL.
In lieu of flowers, donations made be made to either the American Legion Post #0373, P.O. Box 75, Baldwinville, MA 01436, or St. Vincent de Paul Parish, P.O. Box 14, Baldwinville, MA 01436. Please include “in memory of Alexander Zalewski” in the memo line.
Calling hours will be held Friday, February 20, 2026, at the Stone-Ladeau Funeral Home, 343 Central Street, Winchendon, MA from 9:00 – 10:00 a.m., followed by a funeral mass at 11:00 a.m. at St. Vincent de Paul Parish, Baldwinville, MA.
His burial will follow at Greenlawn Cemetery in Baldwinville with Military Honors.
