Darlene Elizabeth Holmes

1946 - 2019

Darlene Elizabeth Holmes died on March 6th, Ash Wednesday at the age of 72. She was born on October 10th, 1946 to late Gordon and Betty Holmes.
After college Darlene moved to L.A. and lived there for over 2 decades. She moved back to the Sault to be closer to family.
Darlene held a few positions, including in the Walmart apparel department, where she remained for several years. She also chose to add to her education by taking classes at LSSU. She volunteered with Big Sisters and at Hiawatha Behavioral Health.
Darlene is survived by her sisters: Sarah Ritchie and Collie Heilman; four nieces: Krista Ritchie Jurcago, Bobbie Heilman Kyle Livermore, Monica Ritchie Peters and Kathleen Heilman Connors; and nephew, Robert C. Heilman; 4 great-nieces and 3 great-nephews. She is also survived by friends Carolyn Trumble, Donna Munsell, and Missy Thompson.
Darlene is preceded in death by her brothers-in law, Tony Ritchie and Robert (Storm) Heilman, nephew-in-law Steve Kyle, her aunts Betty Kirt, Arabelle Fryer, Margarete Gerrish , Alice Curry, and uncle John Granville, her mother's cousin Feme Hillman, known as the Holmes sisters extra Mom, and Darlene's good friend Zelma Cohoon.
There will be an open house visitation from 1-4 p.m. on Sunday, March 17, at 1300 Seymour St., the home her parents moved into eight months before she was born.
Her last wish was to donate her body for medical research. A sincere thank you to Dave Hovie and Hovie Funeral Home for making this possible.
