CANCUN, Mexico -- Thomas C. Souza, 41, of Acushnet and formerly of California, died unexpectedly on November 22, 2006, while vacationing in Cancun. He was the son of George T. and Laura (Rodriques) Souza of Acushnet.
He was born in New Bedford and lived in Denver and San Diego before returning to New Bedford a short while ago. He graduated from Fairhaven High School and UMass Boston with a Bachelor's Degree in Nursing and in Archaeology from Univ. of Lowell.
Thomas served in the US Coast Guard. He was employed at Kaizer Permente Hospital and Scripp Hospital in San Diego. In his younger days, he enjoyed playing sports of all kind.
Survivors include his parents; a daughter, Gillian Souza of Denver; two sisters, Kimberly Goulart and her husband, Roger of New Bedford and Christine Keough and her husband, Andrew of Sherborn; several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
His funeral was private. Arrangements by Rock Funeral Home.

I was tommy's closest friend, I loved Tommy like a brother. There isn't a day that goes by that he isn't missed. I struggle daily with our loss. I'm so sorry.
