Howard Spurlock, 88, of Elkview, passed away on September 30, 2015, at CAMC General Hospital in Charleston. He was born July 11, 1927, in Van, West Virginia, to Harrison and Delores (Dolis) Spurlock. He was one of 12 children.
Howard was a member of the Jordan Mount Community Church in Elkview. He loved the LORD and was ready to call Heaven his Home. He slipped out of our lives into the arms of Jesus.
In addition to his parents, Howard was preceded in death by two brothers, Lawrence and Clarence; four sisters, Jeanette, Betty Jean ('Pug'), Anna Dell and Victoria ('Vickie').
He leaves behind his loving wife of 40 years, Dorothy ('Jewell') of Elkview; his beloved children, Kae Guthrie of Apopka, FL, Kelly Spurlock of Baileyville, ME and Shawn Spurlock of Elkview; plus several grandchildren and great grandchildren. He is also survived by two sisters, Carrie Mae Spurlock of Lynnwood, WA and Mary Alice (Gerry) Bowlby of Lake Forest Park, WA; three brothers, Edward (Anita) of Hartwell, GA, Arthur (Barbara) of Carnesville, GA and Dual Gene (Judy) of Prairie Farm, WI.
Howard retired from the United States Army with 20 years of service and attained the rank of Sargent 1st Class. He served his Country during the Korean War and the Vietnam War. Following his Military career he was employed by the K-Mart Corporation for 19 years where he retired as their Chief Security Guard.
Howard's funeral service was held on Sunday, October 4, 2015, at Barlow Bonsall Funeral Home in Charleston. Burial took place on Monday, October 5, 2015, at The Donal C. Kinnard Memorial State Veterans Cemetery in Institute, WV, with full Military Honors.
