Kaydence Jett Spurlock went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, December 30, 2025, after a courageous battle with cancer. She was surrounded by her mother, father, and girlfriend up to the time of her passing. While our hearts are broken and we grieve her loss, we rejoice in knowing she is healed, whole, and celebrating eternal life in Heaven.
Kaydence, lovingly known as KJ to her family and friends, was born on August 20, 2008, in Monroe, NC. She was known for her infectious laugh, calm spirit, and soft voice. She built a wonderful community through her family and friends and found joy in all things cats and loved butterflies. Despite the challenges of her illness, she faced each day with remarkable bravery. Though small in size, her heart was big and strong, inspiring everyone around her with profound strength.
She is survived by her loving parents, Trinity Basini (Tony) and Eric Spurlock; her girlfriend, Gracie Hubach; brothers, Anthony and Thomas Basini; sister, Alannah Basini; aunt, Megan Beck (Mike); cousins, Maggie and Miller Beck; grandfather, Alan Schmidt; grandmother, Georgia Moore; and uncle, Anthony Spurlock; along with a wide extended family who cherished her. She was preceded in death by her nana, Susan Schmidt; aunt Chelsea Moore; and brother, Brett Spurlock.
The family would like to give a special thank you to Gracie Hubach. She came into our lives only two months before KJ’s diagnosis and never left her side. Her calm demeanor was exactly what KJ needed. Gracie, thank you for loving our girl.
The family also extends heartfelt thanks to the staff at Atrium Health Levine Pediatric Oncology and Kids Path – Hospice of the Piedmont, for their compassionate care.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Saturday, January 3, 2026, at Hayworth-Miller Kernersville Chapel. A funeral service will be held at Bethel Methodist Church in Oak Ridge on Sunday, January 4, 2026, at 2:00 PM with Rev. Charmaigne Van Rooyen officiating. Burial will follow the service in the church cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Kids Path – Hospice of the Piedmont and/or the National Kidney Foundation in Kaydence’s honor.
