The older I get, the faster time goes by. I see that with every passing day. I miss you, and our talks before and after mass. Even when I was not being the lector. I remember when you said to me, "your already a saint". If only this were true. Pray for me. Intercede for me. Help me to become the man you knew I could be. I ask this in the name of the Lord, Jesus Christ. Amen

It's hard to believe it's been 11 years. It was 17 years ago when you married my wife and I at St. Edith Stein Parish. You always made me feel close to GOD. I miss our talks before Mass. You were a loss to the physical work. I hope you have found the peace of Christ. Please help guild me from above.

I never felt closer to God than in Fr. Brian's presence. He was truly one of God's disciples. You will always be in my prayers.

June 10, 2013

To Father Brian's Family I first met Seminarian Brian Smith at Holy Rosary in Lawrence. He served under Fr. Roonan. I was one of the 2 new Adult Altar Servers. Fr. Brian spent time teaching us the ropes as well as sharing his faith. I always knew he'd be a special priest hoped he'd be assigned to our parish at some point. The highlight was attending his ordination and in his graduating class were Frs. Burton and Armano, local boys from Haverhill and Lawrence, it was quite a special day. Even had the opp. to meet M/M Smith. The apple didn't fall far from the tree, faithful people with loving hearts. I was shocked saddened to hear of his passing. He lived doing what he loved and left a legacy behind. Not many people as gifted as Fr. Brian. Know that so many share in your grief and mourn with you. Although we also know where he is now! Fr. Brian I will miss you. Susan

Shortly after moving to Brockton, I discovered the best thing about my new parish, Father Brian. He was always there for me and all of us. He was such a good and kind man. Church wasn't the same when he left. I know he is happy and healthy in heaven.

June 9, 2013

I have many fond memories of Fr. Brian speaking during Mass at St. Edith Stein Parish. He would make sure he had everyone's attention by repeating what he said and expecting a loud response from all. There was no doubt that we were listening and he was getting his message across. May you rest in peace Fr. Brian. You were one of the best!

It was an honor to know such a sincere, holy and humble man who lived the epitome of what spirituality means. Fr.Brian is what Jesus exemplified in terms of His humanity and regard for all who had the pleasure of meeting him. Rest in peace Brian you have touched the heart and souls of those who knew you.

Fr. Brian, you were an awesome priest who truly loved what you did. I saw you first on TV and at the moment the show ended, I knew that you were an angel from God. It is YOU who truly led me to deeply reflect upon a vocation to the priesthood. He was the best! Fr. Brian, I don't know if you know of all the people who were blessed by your life. But even though I never met you in person, you sure blessed mine. And I have to say: Yes, God is so Good! Rest in peace Father. You'll always be in my heart. God Bless You forever and ever.

We have always loved Fr. Brian and think of him as a 4th son.
In 2008 our youngest son took his life and this wonderful priest
Gave him the last rites. He was with us through the darkest days
And hugged us and was our 'Rock' for the last 5years. Everyone
In our family loved him 'the first time you met him you felt you had
Known him all your life' we will miss him so much but know our
Gracious Lord has taken him home to heaven and he's met our
Son Craig! Bless the Smith family and know he was the best!,

I met Father Brian at my Aunt's funeral. I do not know why I must have felt his compassion because I broke down and asked him to help my son. He met with my son every week for a long time. We were heartbroken when he was transferred out of Brockton. He even came to our house and gave last rites to our beloved dog Glory before we had to put her down. Do not know if that is common practice by the church but it meant the world to us and he was so kind to do it. He was a great blessing to so many and he was a true Christian. Our hearts are broken but they are also filled with joy and encouragement for knowing you, Father Brian. Condolences to your family you were blessed with a wonderful spirit. Love the Packard's

When Fr. Brian came to St. Edith Stein, beside him was Fr. Flavin. What a wonderful team. My daughter was married in the Church, in Brewster Ma. in 2005. She married a wonderful man, who is a Naturopathic Physician. They live in CT. Charles Robert Fisel was born in CT. in 2008. Since our entire family is here in Ma., Fr. Smith welcomed my daughter, her husband, Matthew, and baby Charles to be baptized here in Brockton. During the baptism, my one year old granddaughter, Margaret Hannah D'Arcy, climbed up and sat on my son's shoulders to have a good view of the Holy Water being poured over Charles head. She then said,in a tiny voice, " Oh no, Charlie is not going to like dis one!" Fr. Smith laughed so hard it was a little difficult to get back on track.Another time , I attended 11am Mass on a Sunday, and I believe I saw Fr. Brian truly in his element with the Cardinal Spellman young people who were preparing for their Confirmation. He was so full of life and brought a level of God's love to a group of young people whom I am sure will always have him by their side, if they only but look. Outstanding, man, priest, son brother, Uncle, grandson, brother in law, and the kind young man who performed my grandson's Baptism. He is the best of the best. Much love to the mother, of this extraordinary young man.

I've had the great fortune to have known Brian first as a very special teenager who gave his time to teach religion to developmentally delayed students. Even then his compassion for
others and his strong desire for all to know God the way he did shone through. Then I watched him grow to manhood as he studied hard in college and yet still made time to bring his music ministry to our special kids. All the while his great love of God reflected onto any one he encountered. It was no surprise when he entered the Seminary. After his Ordination I saw Fr. Brian in the role he was born to do. He became the face of God to all of us at the South Shore Special Religious Education Program as he ministered and joyfully celebrated Liturgy with us! He is and will continue to be sadly missed. I pray that the grief of the Smith family will soon be replaced with the wonderful memories of a the good kid, the, the kind man and wonderful priest that was Brian Smith! Condolences to all who miss him.

F. Brian was an amazing priest. He restored so many people faith in Catholic Church. He always listened to what others think, believe, and feel without judging them. He listened to them then give advice with a nice smile. He brought out the best of people. He was one best priest around. They say god take best with him... I believe that cause he took you so soon. Time to fly with angels.. Rest in Peace. Always and forever.

Fr. Brian Smith helped to save a life of an unborn child. The saying is, save a life save your soul. He will be remembered as being a true shephard to the parishoneers of ST. Edith Stein . He will be remembered for his long homilies too, but most of all for his actions as a priest who loved the Mass and knew what it meant to receive Jesus in the Eucharist, now Jesus has received him. May the Smith family find comfort in that.

Fr. Brian, your light continues to shine in the hearts and souls of all the people you touched during your lifetime.
"“You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do people light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a stand, and it gives light to all in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven."

To the Smith family:

Fr. Brian was a warm, kind human being and a wonderful priest. He loved his vocation and everyone around him. His homilies were simple but intense with profound messages and also added his great sense of humor. We will miss him terribly at St. Mary's. We were so blessed for the short time he was with us. I particularly enjoyed when he would have the lectors, Eucharistic Ministers, ushers and altar servers “huddle up” before Mass for a group prayer. It always helped us focus on the Mass.

I send my heartfelt sympathy to Mr. & Mrs. Smith and the entire family. No words can ever express what you are feeling at this time, but know he is sitting right beside God and Our Lady. He is praying for all of us now.

God bless,
Cindy Patriarca
