Helen C. Nihill

Helen C. Nihill, of Rockland, beloved wife of the late Robert W. Nihill, died September 19, 2018, at the age of 98, under the care of her loving family and hospice. She was the daughter of the late Norman and Catherine Pike. She was born in Abington, but lived most of her life in Rockland. Helen graduated as valedictorian of Rockland High School, Class of 1938, and completed her degree at the Chandler School for Women. In her younger years, Helen worked at the Chilton Greetings Co. in Boston. For many years, she was secretary to Dr. Robert C. Collins at his Rockland office. Helen was the loving mother of six children and their spouses, Nancy R. Munson (Richard Sr.) of South Dartmouth, Elaine M. Howard (Joseph) of Rochester, David R. (Margaret) of Needham, Deborah N. Baumgarten (Sam) of Bridgewater, Alan J. (Janet) of Pembroke and her cherished son Robert J., who predeceased her in 2015. She was also the devoted grandmother of nine and great-grandmother of five. She was predeceased by her brother John W. Pike and leaves her sister Ruth Sparda Whiting of Charlemont, Mass., as well as many loving nieces, nephews and cousins. She is also survived by her very dear friend of 60 years, Pauline Downing of Rockland. The family wishes to express their gratitude to friends and relatives, as well as Old Colony Hospice and The Irish Connection, for their care and support. Visiting hours in the Sullivan Funeral Homes, 45 East Water Street, Rockland, from 2 - 5 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 23. A funeral Mass celebrated on Monday, Sept. 24, at 11 a.m. at Holy Family Church, 403 Union Street, Rockland. Burial at Saint Patrick's Cemetery, Abington.
