John J. Nihill, “Jack”, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loved ones on Friday, October 4, 2024. Beloved son to the late William P. and Mary (nee Gorman) Nihill.

Jack is survived by his loving children, John Nihill (Amy), Linda Savage (Tom), William “Bill” Nihill (Maureen), and Brian Nihill (Jen); Grandchildren, Kerry, Kevin, Gwen, Patrick, Marissa, Liam, Hannah, Jason, Sydney, Bryan and Thomas; Great-grandchildren, Summer, Thomas, Rowan, Lucas, Cecilia, Leo, Fallon, and Cullen. Jack was predeceased by his adoring wife Jean C. (nee Mascione) Nihill and his brothers Edward Nihill and William Nihill.

Born and raised in Southwest Philadelphia, Jack attended West Catholic High School, and after the family moved to Yeadon, PA, graduated from Yeadon High School. Soon after graduation, Jack enlisted and served his country in the United States Coast Guard and Coast Guard Reserve. His proudest achievements, among others, were playing basketball in High School as well as the Coast Guard. He subsequently attended Villanova University, graduating with a degree in marketing and started his career in sales at the Philadelphia Electric Company (PECO); ultimately retiring from PECO as a Major Accounts Representative. While working at PECO, he took on a second job working nights and weekends as a banquet bartender for the Marriott Corporation, where he met US presidents and other notable elected officials, corporate leaders and other captains of industry, and professional athletes. This experience undoubtedly was the foundation for many of Jack’s “stories and life experiences”.

While living in Yeadon, Jack met and married the love of his life, Jean. They settled in Yeadon and were married at St. Louis Church, where he was an active part of the Church community, coaching CYO basketball and football.

Jack enjoyed vacationing at the New Jersey shore and achieved a goal of owning a house in Wildwood Crest, where he and Jean spent their summers in retirement. Jack was an avid golfer, and if he wasn’t playing down the shore you could find him at McCall Field (PECO’s course) with his PECO buddies.

Jack was a sturdy foundation in the lives of his four children, and a living example of the results of faith in God, hard work and discipline, and love and commitment to family and friends.

Relatives and friends are invited to Jack’s viewing on Thursday, October 10 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at The Donohue Funeral Home, 8401 West Chester Pike, Upper Darby, PA. His funeral Mass will take place on Friday, October 11 at 10:30 AM at St. Louis Church, 801 Cobbs Creek Pkwy, Yeadon, PA followed by his interment at SS Peter and Paul Cemetery, Springfield, PA.
