Jane Ann Jewell (nee Jernigan) of
Cinnaminson, NJ passed away on December 26, 2025 at the age of 81.
Jane was born on May 25, 1944 to the late Michael C. and Jane Antonia Jernigan (nee Schwarz). She lived in West Palm Beach, Florida with her late husband George Bernard, "Bud," Jewell prior to moving to Cinnaminson in 2014.
Jane was the beloved wife of Bud for forty-five years until he passed in 2011. Jane and Bud lived in many areas of the country over the years, and traveled extensively.
A native of
Toms River, New Jersey, Jane graduated from Saint Rose High School in Belmar, NJ. Jane's compassion for others led her to a career in nursing where she was driven in her dedication to care for others. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Villanova University; and her Master of Science in Nursing from Case Western Reserve University. She continued her doctoral studies in clinical nursing research at Case Western University, where she pioneered research in multiple sclerosis.
Jane practiced nursing at Columbia-Presbyterian Medical Center in New York City as well as at the University Hospitals of Cleveland, Ohio. She was a nursing instructor at Muhlenberg Hospital School of Nursing in Plainfield, NJ; St. Elizabeth's Hospital School of Nursing in Utica, New York; Case Western Reserve University's Frances Payne Bolton School of Nursing in Cleveland, Ohio; Forsyth Technical Community College in Winston-Salem, North Carolina; and Palm Beach Community College in Lake Worth, Florida. Jane was beloved by her students for her passion and dedication in nursing and education.
Jane also served as the Chairperson of Critical Care Nursing at Missouri Baptist Hospital School of Nursing in St. Louis, Missouri and at Louise Suydam McClintoc School of Nursing at St. Margaret Memorial Hospital in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
Jane received numerous awards and honors for her excellence in nursing and education and was a member of Sigma Theta Tau professional nursing honor society. She was a pioneer in her field, authored publications on clinical nursing and presented research findings at multiple conferences and symposiums.
Jane was generous with her time and treasure. She volunteered for her churches and was generous to her family and community.
Jane, along with her husband, Bud, was involved in many activities and hobbies, including showing their cherished dachshunds in competition.
Jane was deeply devoted to her Catholic faith and through her faith and devotion, bravely endured the ravages of advanced Parkinson's disease.
Jane was the beloved sister of Mary (Michael) Lodato and the late Michael E. Jernigan. She was the loving aunt of Brian (Kelly) Lodato; their children Adalyn and Cameron; Katherine (Matthew) Murray (nee Lodato) and their son, Hudson.
