Daniel James Keller

With hope in the resurrection, ARCHIMANDRITE FATHER DANIEL JAMES KELLER, 85, of Huntington, WV, reposed in the Lord Jesus Christ on Monday, Jan. 5, 2026, at Cabell Huntington Hospital.
The son of the late Daniel James Keller and Doris Becker Martinez, he was born on Aug. 9, 1940, in Baltimore, MD, and was baptized at St. Jerome Catholic Church. He was a proud graduate of Mount Saint Joseph High School and Towson University. After teaching for several years, he enrolled in Holy Cross Greek Orthodox School of Theology in Brookline, MA, where in 1982, he received his Master of Divinity and was later ordained to the holy priesthood by Metropolitan Philip of the Antiochian Orthodox Christian Archdiocese of North America.
Father Daniel served in the Antiochian Orthodox Archdiocese for many years, including St. George Church, Cleveland, OH, St. John Chrysystom Church, Fort Wayne, IN, Holy Spirit Church, Huntington, WV, St. George, Upper Darby, PA, and Our Lady of Walsingham, Mesquite, TX.
He is survived by brothers, Jim Keller (Linda) of Pennsylvania and David Keller (Amy) of Maryland and sister, Patricia Hoffman (Jack) of Maryland. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brother Michael, sisters Kathleen and Becky, and stepmother Dorothy Keller.
Father Daniel served Holy Spirit Orthodox Church in Huntington from 1986-1997. While at the parish, he established a daily cycle of services and was very active in the community. He participated in the Huntington Ministerial Association and helped establish the Gideon Village Neighborhood Association. During his many years of service throughout the Antiochian Orthodox Archdiocese, he mentored many on their journey to discover Orthodox Christianity and particularly in the formation of men to priestly ministry. He returned to Huntington and Holy Spirit Church for retirement in 2018, where he faithfully helped with a weekly Bible Study and in assisting with the church services for as long as he was able.
Visitation will be at Holy Spirit Orthodox Church, 1 Woodhaven Drive, Huntington, WV, beginning at 5 p.m., Thursday at 7 p.m., the "Funeral Service for a Priest" will be offered by Bishop John Abdallah and clergy. The Divine Liturgy will be served Friday at 9 a.m., followed by an additional funeral service at 10 a.m. Following this service, a meal of mercy will be provided in the fellowship hall. Burial will be at Holy Cross Monastery, Wayne, WV.
