George E. Hartley

1933 - 2020

George Edward Hartley, age 87 a resident on County Road in Pownal, died on Monday, December 7, 2020 at his home, surrounded by family. He was born in Boston, Massachusetts, on January 1, 1933, and was the son of the late George E. and Mildred (Ellis) Hartley. He received his education in Boston. For several years, George had been employed as an Iron Worker through Local 7 in Boston. He married the former Louronne Thatcher, who survives. George was an avid painter, and a member of the Copley Art Society. He enjoyed reading, traveling, ballroom dancing, playing the harmonica and piano, scuba diving and working in the woods. Besides his wife, George is survived by five children: George E. (Anna) Hartley of Finland, Eric A. (Marguerite) Hartley of Middleborough, MA, Gail D. Boudreault of Middleborough, MA, Julie A. (Peter) Riccio of Southington, Connecticut and Guy C. (Amanda) Davis of New Bedford, MA. George leaves eight grandchildren: Katy, Alex, Kivi, Bridget, Erica, Ashley, Megan and Mark as well as 4 great-grandchildren: Genevieve, Zinnia, Nadia and Madeleine. George is survived by one brother and sister-in- law; John and Julie Hartley of Somers, CT and numerous nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by two grandsons: Dylan and Jesse, and his brother Robert Hartley and sister Margaret Hartley. Services will take place at a later time in Massachusetts.
