Robert Sullivan Obituary

Robert Joseph Sullivan QUINCY Robert Joseph Sullivan, age 95, of Quincy, died peacefully, Monday, November 2, 2009 at the Quincy Medical Center after a brief illness. He was born in Groveland, raised and educated in Quincy schools and was a graduate of Quincy High School. He was a lifelong Quincy resident and longtime communicant of Saint Mary s Parish in West Quincy. Mr. Sullivan was the well known owner and operator for sixty years of Sully s Spa, Inc. on Chestnut Street in Quincy Center. He has been retired for twenty years. He was a World War II, U. S. Army veteran. He served as a Military Policeman in the 709 th Military Police Battalion and participated in the Northern France campaign. He received the European African Middle Eastern Theater Campaign Ribbon. For over thirty years he hosted reunions for the 709th MP Battalion. Mr. Sullivan enjoyed traveling and architecture. He was proud to have built three homes for family members. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, the Quincy Lodge of Elks, the George F. Bryan VFW Post in Quincy and the Cyril P. Morrisette American Legion Post in Quincy. Beloved husband of the late Elaine B. (Doherty) Sullivan. Devoted father of Robert J. Sullivan, Jr. of Marshfield, Peggy A. Monahan of Weymouth, Brian P. Sullivan, Richard M. Sullivan both of Quincy, Mary E. Sullivan of Amherst, VA, the late John A. Sullivan and his wife Sandy Sullivan of Squantum. Also survived by ten grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Funeral from the Sweeney Brothers Home for Funerals, 1 Independence Avenue, Quincy, Thursday, November 5 at 9:15 am. Funeral Mass in Saint Mary s Church, 95 Crescent Street, West Quincy at 10 o clock. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Visiting hours Wednesday 48 pm. Interment with Military Honors at Mount Wollaston Cemetery, Quincy. For those who wish, donations in Mr. Sullivan s memory may be made to the Oblate of Mary Immaculate, 486 Chandler St., Tewkesbury, MA 01876 or to the charity of your choice.

Mr. Sullivan,
Sir, I would just like to say thank you for your service and sacrifice for our Country when you served with the U.S. Army Europe fighting the Germans during WW II and for being a member of the Greatest Generation. And to your family and loved ones, I wish to extend my deepest sympathy.

Bob and Elaine were wonderful people and as neighbors, made our lives very pleasant and a great place to live. The "hood" wont be the same and we will miss Bob's kind words and his friendship. We have been blessed to have such a great man be a part of our lives. He truly was a man of the "greatest generation". He will be missed. Len, Pat Carroll and family..
