Barbara SMITH Obituary

SMITH, Barbara (Age 75) September 13, 1945 - March 16, 2021 Barbara's seven grandchildren each wrote a piece of the tribute to follow. Since the day I was born you were there for me, when I was sick and in the hospital. We did butt heads here and there, but that didn't matter. I used to come over almost daily when you lived on Regal and we would sit in the backyard and drink a beer and BS all day and I would help you and grandpa with the yard work. I loved watching the St. Joe River flow with you and drinking coffee. I wish we still had times like that and life will never be the same.- Bryan Curtis. My Grandma Pitts, nicknamed by my son Jonny, was a dose of vodka and keep it real. I was her first born granddaughter and remember her calm spirit that always made me feel loved and safe. She could rock any baby to sleep with her freestyle rhymes. She was that one person who you could count on standing for something, even if she was standing alone. She loved her family free from judgement. I miss her dearly.-Tammy Totpal. She was a force to be reckoned with! Didn't sugarcoat anything! You know the saying, "dynamite comes in small packages". That was my grandma, little but oh so fierce! One of my fondest memories with her is being rocked in the rocking chair and her singing Daisy Bell and Walking After Midnight. She had the most beautiful voice and I will forever hear her singing Patsy Cline or telling me to drink Aloe Vera juice, the cure for all. Love you Granny- Jennifer Farley. She was strong, determined and always told it how it was. She was a bold and outspoken woman who fought for everything that she believed in and never gave up. My Grandma was full of fire and ambition that set her a part from everyone else. She put her whole heart into everything that she did and stood out like a bright star in the darkest of a nights sky. Even if she held a heavy heart it was still full of love and compassion for other people especially for the people that she loved. Her drive is a lot of the reason that I am the person that I am today and I will miss her everyday but even with her gone, a bit of her lives on in each and every person that she loved.-Fallon Hutsell My grandma was the woman you could turn to for anything. She may not have always given you the answer you were looking for, but always did what was best. A Grandmothers is like no other. I will always cherish my days with her, traveling, sleepovers, and spending time time at the beautiful St. Joe River. Her qualities and personality are instilled in all of us who crossed her path. She was kind, stubborn, dependable, giving and pushed everyone to be the best version of themselves.-Amanda Wanrow Waking up to mornings filled with fresh brewed coffee and nearly rolling off the couch, listening to Grandma bustling around the kitchen and running over to beg for a cup. Watching Bob Ross as we sipped and doodled with worn out markers and talked about all sorts of things, mostly how someone must have been moving her things around the house, while grandpa smiled behind his mug. Making sarcastic and sometimes risky jokes to earn a stubborn smile, and then being told a version of "how dare I' while she laughed. Making pancakes with her at the St. Joe, breathing in fresh air, and watching as the sun lit up her face, her eyes shining bright as she watched her family wake up and join her. Listening to her tell stories by the fire, or while we walked around the property, watching her relish every moment of the time she had with us.-Hannah Smith. Well to start off as far back I can remember she was the perfect combination of tough, crazy, and stubborn. Someone who was tough, and yelling at you one second, and caring and kindhearted the next. She loved family and would do anything for them even if it meant sacrificing her own time and money. I owe my love of music to her because she inspired me to write music. Wherever we were, she was singing or humming a song, whether it was one she loved, or one she made up.-Brady Smith Barb Smith was an exceptional woman whom lived an amazing life. Not only was she a loving mother, grandmother and wife of 60 years, but she was also a woman that was greatly admired. She was survived by many. A Celebration of Life will be held on April 24th, from 11am to 12pm, at North Church, 8303 N. Division, Spokane, WA 99208.
