Annette Mason Obituary

MASON, Annette Elizabeth (Derrick) Passed away peacefully on December 23, 2009 in Spokane , Washington. She was born to John Milton Derrick and Florence Sarah Burton on August 18, 1921 in Washington DC. Her love of life and fun continued throughout her 88 years. She grew up in Takoma Park, MD and graduated from Montgomery Blair High school and then attended University of Michigan where she earned a degree in Dental Hygiene. She married her High School sweetheart, Philip Ward Mason in 1943. They raised three children and lived in Silver Spring Maryland until moving to Spokane in 1991. Anne was an artist with fabric and threads. She sewed and stitched and braided many beautiful things. Her garden was full of beautiful azaleas and flowers. She was active in the AFS program and welcomed many foreign students into their home over the years. She was always active in sports from swimming, basketball , track, and field hockey. She was a wonderful wife, mother, and friend to many. She is survived by her three children Martha M. Chadwick (Dan) of Spokane, WA, Sara M. Lauderback (Klyne) of Bristol TN, and Randall P. Mason (Betsy) of Tucson, AZ, 10 grandchildren, and 25 Great grandchildren. We will all miss her sense of humor and the twinkle in her eye!!! There will be a memorial service at Rockwood Retirement Community South on Thursday, January 14th at 10:30 in the morning. Another memorial will be held in Maryland at a later date. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made to Hospice of Spokane, PO Box 2215, Spokane, WA 99210 or Rockwood Retirement South Resident Foundation, 2903 E 25th Ave, Spokane, WA 99223.
