Jack ROGERS Obituary

ROGERS, Jack C.

In the early hours of Saturday, September 9th, Jack C. Rogers, 65-year resident of north Spokane ended his battle to be forever young. His wife of 71 years, Fran, and his oldest daughter Nancy were at his side when he drew his last breath. Jack had an amazing life of 94 years!
He was born in San Diego, June 25th, 1923, a child of the Great Depression. Jack grew up in Seattle and was a star athlete on the tumbling squad at Roosevelt High School. Soon after WWII began, he enlisted in the Army. As Second-in-Command of a landing craft division, he participated in multiple landings under enemy fire during the New Guinea campaign, including the liberation of Manila. Jack was among the first occupation troops that landed in the Japanese home islands.
Peacetime brought him back to Seattle where he met the love of his life, Frances McKenney. They were married April 26th, 1946. Jack attended Cornish Art School and became a commercial artist in the advertising industry. He and his young family moved to Spokane in 1952.
Jack helped start the SFCC Art Dept. and remained on the faculty until quite recently. He shared his passion for art with everyone! He also taught at Northwest Christian School for 15 years while 9 grand- children and 3 great-grandchildren attended. He was still painting and teaching up until the last week of his life.
He never gave up! It was just his personality! He hiked to the top of all the area mountains, including Mt. Rainier, ran marathons, biked across the state and ran every Bloomsday to date.
Jack is survived by his wife Fran, son Dan (Kate) Rogers, daughter Nancy (Gene) Sykes, and Heather (Jay) Allemani. 12 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his son Lee (Becky) Rogers.
Many who knew Jack Rogers have been influenced in some way by his passion for life, love of art, and his never ending drive to push you to find the best in yourself. His legacy will live on. Absent from the body but present with The Lord.

Jack was a model of creativity and life! I will always admire and fondly remember him that way. Thank you, Jack, for all the help training art students, teaching them to really see. On behalf of my family, thank you Mr. Rogers.

I am sad to see the passing of Jack. In the 80's, Jack was my art teacher and mentor. He was an honest, soft spoken man, with a kind heart.
