Gloria Sugarman Obituary

Gloria Cole Sugarman
November 11, 1927 - November 29, 2020Gloria Cole Sugarman, a longtime Westport resident, passed away peacefully on November 29th at the age of 93 after living a vibrant, rich life.
Gloria was a seasoned journalist who covered everything from the trial of Daniel Ellsberg and the Pentagon Papers to the latest innovations in laser surgery. Her favorite assignments included interviews with Eleanor Roosevelt, Frank Sinatra and Paul Newman. In 1981, she won a Matrix Award for excellence in newspapers. Among her career accomplishments, she conceived, designed and edited sections for Fairpress and the Stanford Advocate focused on arts and leisure. She also wrote regular travel and entertainment features and personality profiles for the Connecticut Post, Westport Magazine and the New York Times.
In her golden years she married the love of her life Tracy Sugarman, a renowned artist, illustrator and author. They were married for thirteen years before Tracy passed away.
Gloria was a high-spirited, affectionate, accomplished woman who loved to dance and entertain. She was an expert cook who treated her friends to delicious meals and was famous for her July 4th fireworks parties, held on the patio of her waterfront home on Owenoke.
She is survived by her three children Loren (Jason), Michael (Alicia) and Suzanne and six of her seven grandchildren Rebecca, Jacob, Benjamin, Ellie, Elijah and Madeline. Her grandson Daniel predeceased her.
The family has chosen to hold a memorial service in the spring. In lieu of flowers, the family would request donations to charities that support civil and human rights and social justice.
