David R. Allan
Longtime History Dept. chair, coach, at Pingry School
Dave Allan, who died Wednesday, April 22, 2020, was born in Stroudsburg, Pa, on March 5, 1936. He graduated from Western Reserve Academy and Williams College. He also received a Master's Degree from NYU. He taught for two years at Nichols School in Buffalo and came to Pingry School in 1960 where he taught history for 41 years.
He served as Chair of the History Department and as Director of College Guidance. He also coached football, basketball, baseball and lacrosse. Dave served as a lacrosse referee and was a member of the NJ Lacrosse Hall of Fame. Services will be held at a later date..
Dave is survived by his wife, Connie (Cornelia), son David and wife Betsy, son Chuck, son Christopher and wife Alison, and former son in law Andrew Smith. He was predeceased by his daughter, Lisa Allan, in 1999. He also is survived by eight grandchildren and two step grandchildren.
Many thanks to the staff at Runnells Hospital who cared for him and most especially Marie Joseph, his aide.

Mr. Allan was an inspiring teacher and positive force in the Pingry community. I looked forward to his history classes and friendly conversations. My sincere condolences to the Allan family.
