Dear Aunt Elsie and Family,
It was so nice to see you and Uncle John at Augsburg a few years ago at my son Joe's hockey game (during the homecoming celebration). It was fun to learn that Uncle John played hockey there, also. My mother, Gertrude, was always so proud of her younger brother, Pastor John. May the Lord bless and comfort you and your family, always.

Dear Family of Pastor John,
When I think of John, one the memories I have is of him and his father, Uncle John, coming out to the farm from Minneapolis, digging worms, and then going fishing in Cokato Lake. I also remember his being in the service, and sending letters and pictures to my parents. One of the pictures that stands out in my mind is one of him sitting in a circle, on the ground, with some of his fellow soldiers. He had a Bible in his hands. A few years ago, after my mother's death, I came across some of these items which she had saved, and sent them to John. He sent me a nice letter in reply. Peace and comfort to you at this sad time.

Pastor John and his wife Elsie were faithful visitors to both of my parents, Ed and Alice, during their struggles with poor health. I know my mother especially enjoyed the visits as she cared for my father. As a couple they were truly servants of the Lord

On behalf of Zion Lutheran Church, I thank God for the faithful service of Pastor Midtling. Our congregation, River of Life Lutheran (a consolidation of Zion and Bethlehem Lutheran Churches), gave thanks this Sunday for his life and service after retirement at Zion in Minneapolis. We pray for his family and all those who grieve his passing, including those among us who were ministered to by his visitation pastoral care at Zion. He rests secure in the arms of his Savior.

Families of Dr. John and Dr .James, sister Elsie:
We are saddened at the loss of Pastor John, dear friend and brother in Christ. May God bless your memories, and may He comfort you with his Spirit in the living hope that we all have in Jesus' resurrection from the dead.
We cherish the memories of the many times that we visited together through the last 60 years.
God blessed His ministry in the Gospel of the Lord who saves and gives eternal life, and He has blessed you with the love and care of a father, grandfather, and husband. To God be the glory!
. . . Rev. Harold and June Hein, So.Elgin, IL
