Louis Ritchot Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Aug. 8, 2012.
Ritchot, Louis 74, passed away on August 7, 2012, surrounded by his family, after a brief battle with cancer. Louie had a contagious smile, a passion for his family and a remarkable interest in American and Canadian history. Growing up in the prairie province of Manitoba, Louie attended French- speaking Catholic boarding schools, playing Junior A hockey. He broke his father's heart when he decided not to become a priest. His children thank him for that decision. Preceded in death by his son, Gregory, and parents, Noel and Emilianne; and mother-in-law, Lorna. Survived by his wife, Maureen; children, Wendy-Anne Asplund (Steve), Darren Ritchot (Roxanne), Jocelyn Knoll (Peter), and Terry-Lynne Lastovich (Ken); grandchildren; great-grandchildren; brother, Roger Ritchot (Jackie); sister, Cecile Fortier (Paul); brothers-in-law, Dennis and Terry (Jenny); nieces and nephews; and friends. The family thanks the hospice staff and volunteers from Allina and Father Duffy whose compassion and prayers comforted the family. Memorial Service 10 am Friday, August 10, 2012 at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, One Lourdes Place, Minneapolis, MN 55414 with visitation 1 hour prior and also 5-7 pm Thursday, August 9th at: www.Washburn-McReavy.com Columbia Heights Chapel 763-789-4436 4101 Central Ave. N.E.

I was at Canadian Days in Little Canada this past weekend with Jon Tremblay and we were recalling with love and laughter Louis' famous line "not to worry" when part of a canoe fell off the trailer on the way to the Winter Carnival parade! He is not forgotten!

Dear Maureen and All,
My heart goes out to each and every one of you at this time of grief.
One of Louis' famous quips: "not to worry" resonates with me especially now. Remember, that's what he would want for you now!
Surely the angels have welcomed him into Paradise!

Dear Maureen-I am so sorry for your loss. In the short time I was priviledged to know Louie, I saw how proud he was of this family and how much he loved all of you. He will be deeply missed on our little street. With heartfelt sorrow and sympathy, may he rest in peace and you be comforted to know he is with his lord. God bless your family.

Maureen & Family,
Louis will always be most warmly remembered with me as having been the person who helped a twenty-year-old find his “career path.” Louis, by allowing me—better stated—inviting me to come over to your place in Andover all those many years ago to use his 286 home computer, did more for me than any priest, doctor, teacher and even my own parents! I told Louis this several years ago; I wonder if it ever really registered as to how significant his contribution was to me. So not only am I thankful that he was the generous gentleman that he was, but I'm also grateful for having known him socially and knowing what a charming “bonhomme” that he was. I feel your loss. He was much too young. May he now sing and dance with the angels. Blessings to you all!
