Michael Dovolos Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Jan. 8 to Jan. 10, 2010.
Dovolos, Michael G. Beloved and adored father, grandfather and great-grandfather, Michael George Dovolos, age 81, of Edina, died Thursday, January 7, 2010, peacefully in his home. Michael was born June 22, 1928 in Niata, Greece. Michael came to America on an academic scholarship to study engineering at Macalester College. While attending Macalester, he translated New Testament Greek to English for seminary students. During this time, he met his future wife, Panayiota (Bea) Mihalaria, who precedes him in death. She was the love of his life. Michael was passionate about his church and Lord, family, grandchildren, and friends. He was the epitome of being happy, positive and full of life! He made those around him feel very loved and special. He worked for Ministers Life for 25 years, served his church as a deacon, prepared foods for the Banquet Committee, served on the Building & Grounds Committee, and in recent years served as a church greeter, and visited shut-ins faithfully. Michael enjoyed sharing the history and culture of his beloved Greece while having a deep appreciation and pride for his new homeland, America. He kept active and very involved with his daughters and grandchildren, AHEPA, his engineering association, and with the "wisdom table" at Pearson's Restaurant. Besides his family, he was cared for with great love and attention by his angels: Janet Jones, Bonnie Hruby, Kerry Anderson, Aimee Elizabeth, and Laurie Jenkins. Michael is survived by his daughters, Anastasia Dovolos Hoeft (William) and Georgia Dovolos Rouman (Sam); 5 grandchildren, Andreas (Amy), William, Alexandra, Michael, Sophia; 1 great-grandson, Alexander; brother, Constantin Dovolos; sister, Theodora Boosalis; sisters in Athens, Greece, Despina and Chrisaytha; numerous nephews, nieces and cousins. Memorials should be sent to St. Mary's Greek Orthodox Church. Funeral service 11 AM Monday with visitation ½ hour prior to the service at St. Mary's Greek Orthodox Church, 35th & Irving Ave S., Mpls. Visitation 5-7 PM Sunday in the Terrace Room at the Church with Trisagion service at 7 PM. Interment Lakewood Cemetery. Washburn-McReavy Edina Chapel 952-920-3996

My deepest sympathies to Anastasia and Georgia and your families in your time of loss. Your Dad was a ray of sunshine everytime he walked into the sales office of FountainWoods condos. And he would be beaming over the two of you and the goodies you brought to us. I have remembered him and you most fondly for all these years. It seems like yesterday that he would stop in or pass by with his smile and a warm hello. How fast life goes by. I'm sure you have a lifetime of memories that will comfort you and your families. Please know I will continue to think of you all and send you my heartfelt thoughts of comfort. Diane Whitehead

I can see Papou in his khakis and hat, playing with the kids in the front yard on Woodland Road. And he is smiling, always smiling. We will all miss Papou every single day and send our love and hugs to all of his family and friends...Always, Kari

Dear Anastasia and Georgia and families,
Your dad had a constant smile on his face, and outstretched arms to all of us. He was both loving and bright and full of personality. We will have wonderful memories of his kindness and warmth. Our love and condolences to you.
