Patricia Donovan Obituary

Donovan, Patricia A. Age 77. Died May 17, 2009 of complications of Neurodegenerative Disease. Patricia was born March 8, 1932 in Louisville, Kentucky and grew up in Cincinnati, Ohio. She graduated from the University of Cincinnati, A.B., 1954, M.A. (Classics), 1955. Awarded a Fulbright Fellowship she went to Greece in 1955 and spent three years there in postgraduate study and archaeological research. Returning to the United States in 1958 she began a teaching career in Humanities at Florida State University. In 1961 she joined the faculty of the University of Illinois and, in 1966, she moved to Minnesota to teach at Macalester College. In 1968 she began teaching at Saint Paul Academy/Summit School. Becoming the Director of College Admissions Counseling at SPA, she continued with this work as an independent educational counselor after retirement in 1995, until late 2008. In 1955 Patricia married William P. Donovan, Professor Emeritus at Macalester College and Canon at St. Mark's Episcopal Cathedral. She is survived by her husband and by her son, Kevin P. Donovan (Molly); her daughter, Maura Grace Donovan (David A. Whitman), and by four grandchildren, Sean and Bridget Donovan and Alexander and Peter Whitman. In lieu of flowers, memorials preferred to the donor's favorite charity. Memorial Service at St. Mark's Episcopal Cathedral, 519 Oak Grove St., Mpls., MN 55403, Wed., May 27, 2009, at 2 PM.

Henry and I remember so many good times spent with you and Patricia over more than 40 years. Stimulating conversations about art and many other topics, lunch at the MIA, short encounters here and there. Patricia's influence will live on in her family, friends and countless students.
