Eric Swindall Obituary

Eric J Swindall Aug 20, 1969-April 23, 2013 Eric J Swindall, 43, led a life with more chapters than a person of 100 years. The last chapter concludes with a loving, devoted wife, family and friends gathered around Eric while he courageously fought his leukemia right up until the very end. He died peacefully with his favorite music playing in the background. But the disease did not define the man... Eric is preceded in death by his father, Steve. He is survived by his loving wife, Erika, mother JoAnne, and dog Ringo. Eric was born in Northern California to Joanne and Steve and attended Ygnacio Valley High School. It was there that his love for the Raiders and engines and things that go fast began. Later, life took him to Southern California where he met his first wife, Dana Ranslem, and her loving family. There they opened their home to friends and boxer rescue. The years past and they moved to Austin to be closer to Dana's sister and her family. Eric, while not one for Austin's brutal summers, fell in love with Texas anyway. He bought a Harley and spent many a Saturday riding his bike in the hills near Austin. He built a beautiful outdoor party room and entertained many friends over the years. As often happens in life, Dana and Eric amicably parted ways. On a fateful trip to Cabo San Lucas, Eric met Erika, knew they were soul mates and had a whirlwind romance. Within a very short time they married and began a new chapter in both of their lives. The initial months of their relationship were filled with bonding love and fun. It was not long after being married, Eric discovered he had cancer. The two fought a largely uphill battle against the disease. To the amazement of all the medical professionals treating him, Eric beat back his cancer to give his wife a year and three months. Much of his fight was due to Erika's unwavering belief in him and his devotion to her. Eric lived a life full of fun and few regrets. Join us in celebrating Eric's life Sunday, April 28th, at Poodie's Hilltop Roadhouse, Highway 71 West, Spicewood, Texas starting at 3:00 pm. I haven't quite yet absorbed it, E. I still can't believe that I'm never again going to hear that sincere voice say "hey bud" on the other end of the phone line. You've been such a wonderful friend; always fun, caring, straightforward, funny as hell, and true blue. Thanks for all you taught me and for making me laugh so, so much throughout the years. Your legacy lives on through all of us whom you touched. It will be healing to see friends and hear "Eric stories" at the Cali memorial. Love, your bud, Karen

I'm so proud of your strength, and I'm at peace with the comfort you have. The void is tremendous and will never, and shouldn't, be filled. You were my brother, and closest friend, and you should only have one of those in a lifetime. So save a seat for me, and watch over when you can. Niki, I and the boys miss you and will forever.
