Norman Hurd Obituary

(11/06/2002)Norman C. Hurd, Horseshoe Bay, Texas, passed away on Friday, November 1, 2002. Originally a native of Brady, Norman Hurd, and his wife, Dorothy, moved from Houston to the Texas Hill Country in the early 70's to begin development of Horseshoe Bay with his cousin, Wayne Hurd. Norman spent the next 25 years tenaciously dedicated to creating a resort, unique in its beauty and comfort. His creative genius and hard work culminated in the Horseshoe Bay community in which many people live and work today. The son of the late Frank Hurd and Virginia Welch Hurd, Mr. Hurd, is survived by his daughters, Cheron Ellen Lucy and Virginia Furley Young, and son-in laws, Bill Lucy ad Mike Young. He is also survived by grandchildren, Norman Furley, Travis Lucy, Kendal Lucy, Nathan Lucy and Heather Lucy, and great-grandson, Calvin Furley. Other survivors include sister and brother-in-law, Francis and John King; nephews, Luther and Frank King; and niece, Karen Bishop. Norman Hurd was born in Brady, Texas, November 28, 1921. While a student at Baylor University, Norman met his wife, Dorothy Crippen. The Hurd's settled in Houston where they lived until their move to the Highland Lakes. Mr. Hurd is predeceased by his parents, Frank and Virginia Hurd; wife, Dorothy Hurd; grandson, Jonathan Furley, grandson, Daniel Furley, grandson, David Furley; and son-in- law, Ed Furley. In lieu of flowers, memorial donation may be made in the name of Norman C. Hurd to Focus on the Family, Colorado Springs, CO 90885-2250, or Dallas Theological Seminary, 3909 Swiss Avenue, Dallas, TX 75204.
