Ira FRISINGER Obituary

FRISINGER, Ira Guy
Ira Guy Frisinger, age 85, passed away on June 4, 2015 in Austin Texas.

Ira grew up in Montana during the tough years of the depression and World War II. Ira got to Texas via the U.S. Air Force, where he served as a Staff Sergeant teletype operator from 1948-1952. He received the Korean Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal and UN Service Medal.

While training in Texas, Ira met Florene Housewright, whom he married on June 2, 1951 and they made their home in South Austin. Early in their marriage, Ira became an Austin Police Officer and eventually retired after 31 years, ending his Austin Police Department career as a Lieutenant. Ira and Florene just recently celebrated their 64th wedding anniversary.

Ira developed many lifelong friends through his police work and while serving others in the city of Austin. He served the City of Austin Police Department in many different assignments: from a walking beat on Congress to Motorcycle Traffic Officer, Forgery Division, Detective, Juvenile Officer and Lieutenant of the Identification Division, and as a supervisor in the Warrant Office.

One of the first members of the Ford Village Church of Christ, now known as the Southwest Church of Christ, Ira served God as a teacher, deacon and servant to others through his many acts of kindness and good works. He served as a deacon in the church for 50 years. Ira has many friends and left many memories of good work and humor.

Ira had a passion for writing poetry with many thought provoking poems, and those receiving his poems of holiday greetings and good wishes laughed at the humor of his rhymes. Ira was a man that always wanted to be busy doing something that others would enjoy and benefit from, such as working with wood, making knifes and creating things that all might enjoy.

Ira is preceded in death by his father Ira Frisinger, mother Hattie Helen Nagode, step-father Frank Gonshorowski and brother, Abraham Luis Frisinger. Ira is survived by his wife Florene Frisinger of Austin, Texas, son Ira Frisinger III and wife Bobbye of Manchaca, Texas, son Randie Frank Frisinger and wife Jan of Fort Worth, Texas, and son Tracy Lyn Frisinger and wife Renee of Austin, Texas, seven grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends at a Visitation from 6-8:00 p.m. on Monday, June 8, 2015 at Cook-Walden/Forest Oaks Funeral Home, 6300 W. William Cannon Drive, Austin, TX. A Funeral Service will be held at Southwest Church of Christ at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, June 9, 2015. The church is located at 8900 Manchaca Road in Austin. Interment will follow at Cook-Walden/Forest Oaks Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers, Ira requested that donations be made to the Southwest School of Bible Studies in his memory. (For additional information, please contact the Southwest Church of Christ at 512-282-2486.)

What an honor it's been to be Ira and Florene's neighbors. We miss Ira's constant smile and kind wit and how generous--like a grandfather-- he'd been with our son (not to mention how freely he'd share his tools!). We send thoughts of comfort to Florene and his family.

Mister Ira had such a twinkle in his eye, a smile that lit up the room, and a hug that left you feeling warm all over! He will be sorely and greatly missed, but rejoicing that he is up in Paradise! Condolences to the Frisinger Family, and love to you all!

Blessings of peace to Uncle Ira's family. We Montana Frisinger's will miss his Christmas poems and his cheery attitude. He loved working for the Lord and it showed in everything he did. Love you Auntie Flo and all the cousins.

The Frisinger's and the Wright's have shared a multi-generational friendship that spanned some 50+ years. I will always think of Ira in two ways: his always present smile and laugh, usually following his own funny joke or story; and his tireless service in the Kingdom. I've long admired his dedication to the Lord and I know he has received his heavenly reward.

I have so much love in my heart for this man. He was practically a grandparent to me. I remember sitting in his lap as a child in church. He called me peanut. He always had a jolly laugh and a funny story to tell. The world has lost a great man and he will be forever missed and loved. To the entire Frisinger family, we could not think any more highly of anyone, than we do of Ira. My love, heart, prayers and hugs go out to the entire family. I know he lived a loving and faithful life. He was a servant to others like Christ. He is an inspiration to so many. We love you all! Linda Corbell Siebert and family

I guess I never thought about what it would be like to lose this man who has always been there for those who were in need. He tirelessly yet happily worked to help maintain our church building and it's grounds. I loved his sweet smile and his funny antics. He never let me take myself too seriously for which I am grateful. I treasure the faithful christian example Ira set for me throughout my association with him which has been for most of my lifetime. Til we meet again Ira Guy!

I am so sorry for your loss. I remember our families spending time together so many years ago. Ira always had a smile on his face and a hug to give. Someday I know that I will see that sweet smile again in heaven. Remember all of the good times and that smile and know that Ira is celebrating with the Lord Jesus in heaven today. May you feel the peace of the Lord as you go through these trying days.
