Vicki was a wonderful support and friend during the 18 months I worked in the Olin Library at Washington University. Her warm and caring personality helped me through some rough times there.

Vicky was my first supervisor and I will always remember that after talking with her I always wanted to do more, to be more. I think others that she supervised had the same feeling. My feelings are expressed by the poet Robert Hayden in his tribute to Frederick Douglass. He writes, this man, superb in love and logic, this man shall be remembered. Oh, not with statues' rhetoric, not with legends and poems and wreaths of bronze alone, but with the lives grown out of his life" Rest in peace, Vicky Witte.

No disrespect to any of the others, but Vicky was the best boss I ever had. My condolences to the Witte family. She will be missed!

Vicky lived a life that truly served as a role model for us - committed to family, meaningful friendships, lifelong learning, appreciation for the arts and spirituality, and community involvement. And her generosity benefitted us all, especially through her hosting of grand Thanksgiving and family celebrations, that touched so many through the years. I'm so personally grateful to the beautiful care delivered to Vicky by Pat and Bruce through these many years and look forward to living out her legacy by continuing to share great times together with our family and extended friends. She's counting on us to keep singing And the smoke goes up the chimney just the same... We will love you forever Vicky/Mom/Hama Vicky!
