John Martin Haaseth
April 27, 1936 - April 30, 2021
Mobile, Alabama - John Martin Haaseth, age 85, died and went to heaven on Friday, April 30, 2021. John was born on April 27, 1936, in Pontiac, Michigan. He was married to his wife, Arlin, for 51 years.
John was a proud Air Force veteran and worked in the boating industry on the Mississippi Gulf Coast for many years. He was a lay leader in the Lutheran Church, Boy Scout leader, beekeeper, wooden boat enthusiast, family man, and consummate do-it-yourselfer. During his life John donated over 250 units of blood (the equivalent of 25 people) to the Red Cross.
John was preceded in death by his father, Martin, his mother, Helen, and his wife, Arlin. He is survived by his step-mother, Ruth Haaseth; sister, Connie Haaseth Christensen; daughter, Pamela (Don) Bratton; daughter, Lael (Mark) Butler; son, John M. Haaseth II; daughter, Gretchen (Jim) Johnson; grandsons, Donald (Laili) Bratton and Matthew Bratton; great-grandchildren, Donnie and Lucas Bratton; nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Most recently, John shared his life with his adoring companion, Shelby Dove, in Fairhope, AL, and her loving children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren to whom he was affectionately known as "Papa John."
A memorial service will be held at Ascension Lutheran Church in Daphne, AL, on Saturday May 8, 2021, at 2 o'clock with a reception following in the fellowship hall. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to your favorite charity or to Ascension Christian School

I’m sorry to read about your Dad passing. I enjoyed meeting him and your Mom and loved the Gulfport house.
It was nice they sold it to us so quick with the baby “ steaming in “ so soon.
After we went to Alpine Helen to see what was special? we then went for about 23 years in a row, staying longer each time for awhile. I’ve taken a few friends to it also. Last trip a bear ran past my hotel door just before I opened it. ( I have video).
I know he camped with the scouts there ,but we got hooked on “the Helendorf”.
We have hiked around the area
They gave us 2 good places!

I am Edvins youngest daughter, remarkably with the lifelong nickname of honey-bee. I only had the pleasure of meeting my cousin John a few times. I wanted to share with you what a kind and wonderful person he was and how nice it was to get to talk to him (about honey-bees & boats) and Shelby. They were both delightful people, and I regret not seeing them more often. To John’s children: your grandfather, Martin would often spend weekends with us, along with my Dad; Edvin and stepmom Geneva at our weekend place. My email is: [email protected] Deepest Sympathy to you all.
