John Robert Butch Dewar

John Robert "Butch" Dewar Butch Dewar, 71, passed away in Fort Lauderdale on December 23, 2013, after a lengthy illness, with family at his side. Butch was born on October 29, 1942 in Chicago. He graduated from Central Catholic High School, now St. Thomas Aquinas High School, in 1961.Butch worked at the Mai-Kai Restaurant for over 40 years. His strong advocacy for the Mai-Kai Restaurant was well known by his friends and family. Butch had a very kind heart and loved the pets he had throughout his life. He was an avid fisherman, an interest he quickly claimed when his family moved to Ft. Lauderdale in 1954. He especially enjoyed fishing in the Gulf Stream off the coast of Ft. Lauderdale. His ashes will be scattered in the Gulf Stream by family members per his request. Butch is survived by his brother Dennis "Buddy" and his wife Adele from Tallahassee, nieces Laura and Jennifer, and nephew Robert John. Butch was preceded in death by his parents Robert John Dewar in 1971 and Virginia Lois Dewar in 2012, and Dobi, one of his favorite dogs. Butch cared for his Mom during much of the later years of her life. A gathering to share memories of Butch will be held in the Samoa Room at the Mai-Kai Restaurant on Saturday January 18th from 5:30 - 7:30 PM. The family would like to thank Safe Harbor Assisted Living and the wonderful staff in the Medical/Surgical Intensive Care unit at Broward General Hospital for their care of Butch.
