Just watching the Americas Cup. It's in Barcelona this year. Barcelona will always remind me of the first time I set foot on Sinbad in Port Vell and of all the many many happy times spent on board.
Unforgettable and guaranteed to make me smile.

In the 1960's while working my way through college at Hialeah Race Track I sometimes had the good fortune of working Saturdays on Gene's yacht Mimosa docked at Dinner Key Marina. In the 1990's our paths crossed again when he visited my store at the Dania Marine Flea Market. I immediately recognized him and he was gracious enough to have a nice chat with him about the Mimosa and Hialeah Race Track. He wanted to buy a book on super yachts that I was selling but I convinced him to allow me to gift it to him. He certainly had a life well lived.

Great road trips with Gene over the decades. Eugene loved the mountains of Wales & the Scottish Highlands with trips to Gleneagles, tours of the distilleries even gathering his own juniper berries off the moorlands to make his own Gin. Gone but not forgotten. Sadly Missed.

I was so saddened to learn of Gene's passing. I will always be grateful for his kindness and hospitality. Gene was always so welcoming and the memories spent with my good friends at his home will never fade. The boat parade parties, Thanksgivings, and Christmases were the best. Rest in peace, Gene.

Recalling the many treasured memories of our family holidays in the South of France with our son Daniel (Samuel!) , as your guests on Sinbad. We loved listening to your stories in the warm, summer evenings on the back deck over a glass or two of Provencal Rose!
Rest in peace Captain Mori xx

You always kept the Bible presented to you in 1937 at Sunday School by your grandmother close by, with the ink inscription of Proverbs 3:5-6:
Trust in the Lord with all your heart, on your own intelligence rely not; In all your ways be mindful of Him, and He will make straight your paths.
Rest in peace Gene.

Gene lead a very interesting life , he had a certain type of " spunk" which we all loved and it kept him going till the very end of his long life.
Lots of fun and thrilling times out boating with Captain Gene, always a great story to be told about the day on the water..... and sometimes a little below the water level, never a dull moment ! Gene was kind enough to let me stay on his boats , both in the USA and France.
Gene loved dogs. I would visit his home often and bring my dog , we trained her to jump off the diving board on his command. Gene would sit out in the back garden with his cold drink and clap his hands together, my dog would then jump off the board into the pool for him with a big splash , they are wonderful memories , so many fun times we all shared. He will be missed. Rest in Peace my friend.

Fond memories of a great friend of the Herlihy family. Eugene was a bright and intelligent man who led a full life and had a wealth of interesting and entertaining stories. I remember Patrick and I videoing him at Hialeah Race Track as he recounted his time as the General Manger and how the grandstand incorporated several features of other famous tracks. He was generous and very hospitable to us over the years. I remember taking him on a Beatles driving tour of Liverpool playing Beatles music all the way. His favorite song was Eleanor Rigby. I showed him Paul McCartney’s and John Lennon’s childhood homes, the latter of which he told Eileen was Eleanor Rigby’s cottage.

Gene was an amazing man and age was never a barrier. He was parasailing off Cap Ferrat and still skiing in Auron well into his eighties. He most certainly lived his life to the full. RIP xx

It was with great sadness & shock, when first I heard the news of Eugene Mori Jr's untimely passing last week.
I first became acquainted with Eugene through my Herlihy cousins Jim, Des, Maureen and Eileen, almost 20 years ago. Eileen was a close friend and soul-mate of Eugene for over 40 years, and together they travelled the world.
One summer, during a French cruise, their ship docked in Cobh, Cork, and I met them in the harbour, as I was living nearby.
Eugene was never short of relating an amusing or interesting anecdote, and we had a wonderful afternoon in a dockside tavern, before continuing their cruise.
While living in Portugal, Eugene, Jim and Eileen paid a visit to my house one sunny afternoon for lunch. When they arrived, I had playing some of Eugene's favourite music, including Artie Shaw, Dave Brubeck, and of course his long-time friend, Cab-Calloway. The story of how he met Cab is now legendary - and this really was the forerunner to the "Black Lives Matter" cause. Needless to say, a marvelous afternoon was had by all!
Eugene was acquainted with a vast array of celebrities, from American Presidents, to relatives of the Monaco Royalty. Despite this he was always very humble when telling stores of these people, which endeared you to this generous and informative character.
I for one will sincerely miss this man, his stories, his company and his bonhomie!
Goodbye Buddy! You're in a better place.
God Bless You.
From your friend,
Dr. Cormac Murphy.
