Allan McIver Bostick, Jr.

Quincy - Allan McIver Bostick, Jr., 76, died at Big Bend Hospice House in Tallahassee on Thursday, December 13, 2018 after a long, hard-fought battle with cancer. Allan was born in Quincy, where he lived most of his life. He was a 1960 graduate of Quincy High School, where he was a proud member of the fighting tigers varsity football team, alongside teammates who would remain life-long friends. He also worked when possible helping his father at Oakland Concrete Products, Inc., a ready-mix concrete and block company founded by his father and uncle in 1947. After graduation, Allan attended the University of the South in Sewanee, TN. He was a member of the Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity, the Volunteer Fire Department, the Order of Gownsmen, and was a member of the Sewanee football team his first two years. He graduated in 1964 with a BA in Biology.

In 1966, The United States Marine Corps became a big force in Allan's life after he enlisted and attended OCS, graduating as a 2nd lieutenant in the 40th OCS class at Quantico, VA. Extensive training as a naval flight officer followed, leading to his service in Vietnam in 1967-1968 with the Marine Air Group 11 VMCJ1 as a flight officer in the RF-4 Phantom performing navigation and reconnaissance duties and also serving on the ground as a forward air controller with the 3rd Battalion 1st Marine Division for part of the year he served there. Allan continued to serve his country as a member of the reserves with the USMC VTU in Tallahassee after his active duty period ended in 1970. When he left the reserves, he had reached the rank of Major.

Returning to Quincy in 1970, Allan resumed working with his father at Oakland Concrete, eventually assuming the leadership role in the company. He continued there for 26 years and when the business was sold, worked for Florida Rock Industries for about 8 years as an operations manager, before his retirement.

Allan was a man of many varied interests and hobbies. He was an avid fisherman, hunter, and sailor. He loved boats and spent many hours sailing, crewing on sailboat races with friends, and building boats in his spare time. He loved St. Joe Bay and spent as much time as possible at Cape San Blas scalloping, fishing, and enjoying his family. He was also

an avid reader and had a great appreciation for art, doing some drawing and painting, as time allowed. He always involved his children in his hobbies and interests and passed his passion for these activities on to them.

Allan was a member of several hunting clubs over the years and especially enjoyed dog hunting for whitetail deer from boyhood until the last year of his life. After deer season ended, he always looked forward to the spring turkey season to follow. He was a current member of the Soapstone Hunting Club and Amsterdam East Club, loving every minute of the hunting, but especially cherishing the camaraderie with his fellow hunters who were his dear friends.

Another important membership for Allan was that of life-long parishioner at St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Quincy. From being an acolyte as a boy to serving on the vestry and as junior warden over the years, he always tried to serve his church faithfully.

Allan is survived by his wife of 41 years, Judy Hutchinson Bostick; three sons, Wyatt (and wife Augusta), Drew (and wife, Laura), and Allan "Bud" Bostick; one daughter, Beth (and husband, Taylor) Cox; three beloved grandchildren, Hudson Bostick, 14, Sada Bostick 11, and Addie Cox, 7; and one step-sister, Susan (and husband, Rick) Keyser. He was preceded in death by his parents, Allan and Frances Spiller Bostick and step-mother, Hattie B. Smith Bostick and many close and loving aunts and uncles.

Visitation will be held Monday, December 17, 2018 at St. Paul's Episcopal Church

Parrish Hall at 1:00 p. m. and service at 2:00 p. m. in the church. Interment will follow at Hillcrest Cemetery in Quincy.
