Michael DeLorenzo Obituary
Tallahassee - Michael J. DeLorenzo 70, of Tallahassee, passed away on Wednesday, August 21, 2019.
A son of the late Maurice DeLorenzo and the late Marie Maddaloni DeLorenzo, he was born in Brooklyn, New York, on March 1, 1949.
He held a degree in Civil Engineering from Manhattan College. After serving in the US Army, he spent most of his career with the Federal Emergency Management Agency. After retiring from FEMA, he worked for the Florida Division of Emergency Management, retiring as Deputy Division Director. He worked tirelessly to serve communities, the state of Florida and the nation in his over 50 year career. He was a highly respected leader among leaders in the field of Emergency Management, receiving the Florida Distinguished Service Medal twice.
He was a loving husband to Idy Codington, a brother to Elaine DeLorenzo, Maureen Delorenzo and Ginger Simpler, a devoted father to Veronica DeLorenzo Castleberry, Michael Joseph DeLorenzo III, and son-in-law John Castleberry. He dearly loved his grandchildren, Luke Castleberry and Emma Grace Castleberry.
The Memorial Service is from 2:00 PM until 3:00 PM, Wednesday, August 28th, 2019 at Culley's MeadowWood on Timberlane, with Gathering of Family and Friends to follow at 3:00 PM. My sincere condolences to DeLo's family. I worked with him at Florida's Division of Emergency Management and can honestly say he was a gentleman and well respected by everyone - at all times. I was blessed to have known him so, I pray God's peace be with all the family.

Dilo and I worked many events at DEM. He was the coolest of them all. We worked under very serious circumstances and Mike always had a solution and a way to calm the storm. In addition, he was a mighty fine dancer at the Legions Hall. We will miss you Mike especially your smiles and gentle soul.

The Manhattan College alumni community shares the grief, and is now praying for our fellow alumni and the family at this time. The Alumni Office has been informed. As well as the Jasper Jottings community that I personally can reach. We are all a little poorer now. "No man is an island, entire of itself ... any mans death diminishes me". We are sorry for your loss.

Mike was a quietly dedicated, ultimately awesome professional. It was both my honor and privilege to work with him during my tenure at FEMA, and he patiently educated me about emergency management during those times. I know I occasionally flabbergasted him with my lack of knowledge about EM details - I remember his attempts to re-phrase operational details until I finally got it, and his frustrated smiles as I muddled through the decision making process - but his patience and dedication to serving others constantly inspired all of us that worked alongside him.
You will be missed, Mike.
