I had Professor Darnell's Business Policy course in Fall 1981. the course was the culmination of all of the SBI courses. it was an interesting course and Professor Darnell was an excellent instructor.
I still remember his parting words to us and I quote" If you become the CEO of a Multinational Corporation, be the best! If you become the neighborhood drunk, be the best ( I could go on but it wouldn't be proper) " When you leave here (FAMU) you represent all that have have come before you and all that will come after you, so be the BEST at what ever you become!
Rest in peace Professor Darnell

Reading many of these messages impressed upon me the importance of loving your family and friends. I want to have a positive influence on others just like Guy clearly did. My sincere prayers go out to all that loved and had the privilege of knowing him.

Guy was not only a valued Professor, but he was a very kind friend who never hesitated to give me advice when ever I asked. He was a valued part of the development of SBI.

I studied under the tutorship of Professor Guy Darnell during the mid-fifities. His style made learning easy. Efforts to locate him during the past several years were unsuccessful. I'm in the process of reading his recent book. My deepist sympathy goes out to his daughter, other relatives and friends. I know that his lay back persona will reach perfection at his new destination.

To Guy's Family,
Mr. Darnell is a legendary figure at Florida A & M University. As a student I did not take a class but I knew he was a beloved teacher. As a colleague in the School of Business and Industry I knew personally that his reputation was well deserved. I remember being stranded in Hartsfield International Airport in Atlanta many years ago. He introduced me to my first Long Island Ice Tea as we became acquainted as personal friends. God bless his family as they celebrate a wonderful life....
