Sara Cunningham Coleman

Sara Cunningham Coleman peacefully passed away on April 7, 2016 at her home in Havana, Florida. She was surrounded by her loving children.

Sara was born on March 9, 1917 in San Antonio, Texas to Mae "Dear" Price and Frank Cunningham. She was the first female born in the Cunningham family for 5 generations. There was much celebrating at the time of her birth, with Papa Price declaring, "Now we have a Queen of the West!"…and indeed she was. She was one of five children, two of whom survive, Mary Boone of Austin, Texas and Sam Cunningham (Nell) of Havana, Florida.

She attended Jefferson H.S. in San Antonio and moved on to Baylor University in Waco, Texas. She graduated with a Degree in Physical Education, which she then taught at Baylor. While there, she met and married Charles Foster (Froggie) Coleman in 1939.

Sara and Froggie had three children: Molly Coleman Wilson Havana, FL, Sally Coleman Boddery (Simon) Havana, FL, and Charles Foster (Tad) Coleman, Jr. (Jan) Medina, Ohio. The family resided in Waco, Texas, active in all things Baylor and Columbus Avenue Baptist Church until 1957. Valdosta, Georgia be6came their new home for four years, before moving to Columbus, Ohio. Sara was active in any community in which she lived, making a positive difference, lifelong friends and participating in countless worthwhile projects. In 1975, Havana, Florida became their forever home and they even have a sign at the entrance saying, "Here Us Is".

Sara was very active at Salem United Methodist Church, holding numerous leadership roles. One of the first Presidents of the Havana Garden Club, she is now an Emeritus Member. Community Cares is a local organization for which she volunteered for many years. She was an avid Bridge player for over 70 years and she loved her local Bridge Buddies.

Froggie and her family were the loves of her life. She was a strong partner to Froggie and supported him in every way. Her Children and Grands and Great-Grands held the keys to her heart. For probably 50 years, Sara wrote postcards every single morning to family and/or friends. She shared what was going on in her world and in turn, everybody shared back with her. Sara and her suitemates at Baylor formed the "Round Robin" and kept the letters going 'round since 1939. A Baylor flag flies proudly in her yard. Keeping an immaculate and blooming yard was so important to her and she loved digging in the dirt. It was always a source of great pride and rightly so. Many people took saplings from her yard and have Flowering Peach trees, etc. today. She was an expert in freezing or preserving all the produce from Froggie's garden, of which there was always an abundance.

Sara is survived by her sister, Mary Boone and her brother Sam Cunningham (Nell); her children, Molly, Sally (Simon) and Tad (Jan). Grandchildren Chris Wilson, Marc Wilson (Diana), Lane Wilson Clark (Rick), Sara Catherine Wilson Vaughan (David), Molly Cunningham Wilson, Sherry Boddery Aglietti (Jason), Scott Boddery (Sara Anne), Christopher Coleman (Margo), Kellie Coleman Johns (Crell), and Jack Foster Coleman (Leslie). Also nieces and nephews Susan Cunningham Nichol (Kenny), Carolyn Cunningham Frost, Bill Boone (Ann), Jim Boone (Susan Hobbs), Joanne Crawford (Dan), Bill Cunningham (Sandi), Mary Cunningham. Sally Cunningham Bryant (John) and Clint Cunningham (Ellen).

Great-Grandchildren are: Jordyn Wilson Cox (Philip), Peyton Wilson, Coleman Clark, Tyler Clark, Weston Clark, Kaitlyn Vaughan, Bailey Vaughan, Maclane Mautz, Madeline Mautz, Carmen Aglietti, Derrick Aglietti, Cairyse Coleman, Caine Coleman, Lindsey Coleman, Rachel Coleman, Carleigh Johns, and Katherine Johns.

A Celebration of Sara's Life will be held on Monday, April 11, 2016 at 11 o'clock am at Salem United Methodist Church, in Havana, Florida. Family will greet friends at the front of the Church following the service. The Family appreciates all the love and support extended to them during this difficult time.
